Yesterday, I tried to connect to Internet through my Daughterś new router, using Ëthernet"in Porteus 4.0-XFCE. Failed to establish connection in auto. Tried with Nemisis-XFCE...same result.
Tried with Windows 10. Connection established after I ran ïpconfig:.
I took my old 32 machine, booted with very old Slax KDE(10 years), CD. I saw the éthernet'icon with the tick mark immediately.
Tried with 32 bit Porteus-3.2.2 LXQt. Ethernet Connection in auto established without any fuss.
Noted , address, net mask, gateway, name server etc, manually edited IPv4 settings in Porteus 4.0. FAILED. ifconfig does not show any inet details.
What is wrong with Porteus 4.0 64bit OS?

Re: Ethernet Connection
sounds like a kernel/firmware issue..
try mixing an older kernel module and vmlinuz with 4.0
or try adding kernel-firmware-20190114_bc65650-noarch-1.txz

Re: Ethernet Connection
Thanks. The card in question is "rtl8111.8168/8411" a Realtek make.
Looks like kernel module r8169 has a problem with this card.
Suggestions include compiling a new driver kernel module "r8168".
Would request neko to make this module in addition to r8169, which can be black listed later in one of his future Kernel compiling jobs, if possible . That kernel /vmlinuz combo may be useful for users who have motherboards using this Ethernet card.
Please refer,

Thanks in advance.

Re: Ethernet Connection
Surprise..Neko's Porteus-4.0 Cinnamon with OverlayFS, has no problem using Driver r8169 and connects to Ethernet.

Re: Ethernet Connection
Good, could you still run psinfo and upload the /tmp/psinfo.txt to pastebin?
Would be good to see if you indeed mixed up kernel and Porteus 00* modules like ncmprhnsbl suspected.
Then again, you not need doing so if Neko's Porteus-4.0 Cinnamon works okay with you and you not need any help with debugging Porteus 4.0-XFCE.
Could you please name the actual version of the neko Port4 Cinnamon that works as solution for other users who might lurk and have a similar issue?
Cheers!
