I could finally get it installed at startup -and that without any dirty tweaks- the slackware version of mysql-5.1.46.
It is posted here:

Just put it in "modules" and activate it. To start it, open a konsole and invoke it like that:
root@porteus#mysql -u root -p <Enter>
the machine will answer:
Password:
just press <Enter> and you are able to work your database.
