[Solved] NEED HELP!!!

hi, i am jan. i am complete rookie to LINUX. I have installed Porteus LXDE v 4 0-i586 from an usb stick on a Windows 10 pro System.Work fine but i have two Questions: i want to connect to the Internet with a realtek WiFi usb stick. Linux Shows me all Networks but i cant install the Software/Drivers which i have on the stick. i copied the original cd to usb stick because my cd drive is broken. works fine with Windows but i dont know how to do it on Poeteus. i copied the stick to Desktop and opened the Linux Folder from the realtek Software. found a .tar .gz and Porteus asked me to install slackware...tried but System asked for administrative Password which i dont know and how to find.Please i am tired to read the junk in regular forums which doesnt work. i registerded here to find a kind person helping me get satisfied with Linux. Somebody give me a clear instroduction to connect to the internet and to install application like tor browser etc.I am happy find Porteus looks great to me but i ned help for my ver first steps in Linux newland...

yeah! tyvm, i have found it on the porteus Homepage but cant install the Realtek Software from the usb stick

it seems users here cant imagine a person complete new to linux i have installed a driver pack of realtek according to francois first link connect the hardware means the stick rtc8129eu nothing...

I was new to Linux 5 yrs ago when I joined Jan and I've learned a lot with the help of the great supportive people here. And BTW I have never installed a Linux driver pack since I began using Porteus. Windows uses driver packs, Porteus uses modules.

Provide the output of the lspci command Francois requested and maybe a direction can be determined for you.

Are you able to get into terminal or cli mode? We want to know if porteus is able to identify the driver you need to run your usb wifi key?

Jan, drivers for Realtek WiFi are already installed for many models, under,

Open file system and look for,

/lib/modules/4.xx-porteus/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/realtek/

You may be knowing your wifi model number, if not look for your wifi model in /var/log/dmesg. There are 3 directories,for rtl models under wireless/realtek, open and look for your model.

If you find yours, conclude that driver is installed. and available..

Next step is to find out whether the "firmware' for the wifi model is installed. Pl check under /lib/firmware...

Or if you are lazy, specify your wifi model number . Hope this helps.

to your wlan?

It would be helpful if you post the output of the lsusb command
to get the device ID
just to know which (usb-wifi) device we are talking about.

Jan, the device ID is needed so I can query the ID on Wikidevi to see what kernel version
is aware of this device and which driver to use.

You said you see all networks
..again..what happens when you try to connect to your wlan?
..any error messages?

Nothing happens...by the way i changed to KDE-v4.0-i586 works better for me .i have a original Realtek cd Rom supports Linux but my cd drive crashed so i copied on usb but cant install in Linux works fine with Windows Linux not

Jan do you know what the Command Prompt window looks like in Windows? Well the Terminal window in Linux is similar. Look for a menu item with that name, click it, and in the window with the black background enter the lspci command shown you earlier. Highlight it's results and copy them to a posting. Ideally put code tags around it.
