[solved/workaround] Is it possible to run porteus-server on a machine also running apache?

I can't see any setting to configure the server to listen on a different port (won't 443 be listened on by apache?)

PK Server does not use web server. Only stunnel+ssh which listens on port 443 by default and you cant change it.

If you want to have PK Server on a public IP and run Apache server behind this IP (using different PC) then you can configure the clients like that:
kiosk_server=domain.com:8443

and then redirect the traffic from 'public-IP:8443' to 'local-IP-of-PKServer:443' in your router/firewall settings.

I've got Porteus Server running inside a virtual box and the problem I have now is I can't get to the Monitoring Mode checkbox / buttons at the bottom of the Administration Panel without using keyboard shortcuts to move the window off the screen.
The display resolution while it loads up Porteus Server seems to be 1024x768, then it blanks and drops down to 800x600 and as the Server Admin panel looks like it has been designed for a minimum of 1024x768, I can't get to the good stuff. Help!

Please add at least 32MB of memory to the GPU card in the VM settings. You should have native resolution then.

Confirmed ; tried 64MB ; no difference!

This is the size/order of events:
Oracle VM logo shown (4:3)
window blanks and resizes to a console size (16:9)
the porteus kiosk server (basic) displays splashscreen at (4:3) @ 1024x768
this takes a while then shinks and blanks the window down to 800x600
then it shinks the window down again to console size
then it expands and shows the splashscreen (but at 800x600) and loads the Admin panel...

Make sure you have activated following option:
"View - > Auto-resize Guest Display"

and also maximize your VM window.

View -> Auto-resize Guest Display is already set on. Maximizing the window just centres the content. We are running the VM box on a windows host (but this shouldn't make a difference should it?).

Must be something on your side (probably VM version or settings).

You could also run other linux (e.g. Porteus Desktop or Ubuntu) in very same VM and check if it behaves the same.

I've found that leaving the Virtual Machine windowed gets the PK Server (and also the Kiosk Client) to detect (or perhaps default to?) a maximum resolution of 800x600. Maximizing the VM window as the VM boots for the first time seems to allow PK Server to detect a higher available resolution. Perhaps there is some VirtualBox setting that controls this behaviour but I don’t know it.

We've worked around the problem so as when booting Porteus Kiosk Server for the first time, we maximize the VM window, and the resulting resolution that is set remains persistent between reboots. We can then resize the window and scroll it so the Administration Panel is in the centre of the window (the desktop still doesn’t respond to the screen resize commands like “auto resize” in the View menu of the VM which it does when I installed Mint in the same VM).
