Splash Screen Stays Up

I just downloaded the LXQt V4 installation, and ran the install script to my USB drive, and it all seemed to have worked.
When I boot the USB, I get the splash screen with options such as: Graphical, Always Fresh, Command Line, etc.
I can down-arrow through the choices, but when I hit enter on any of them, nothing seems to happen.

It sounds like the boot menu isn't booting.

It seems that the files couldn't be copied properly to the USB stick. You can try to format the unit and copy the ISO content again (running the bootable app). If formating is not an option, you can try to run a disk check.

I believe the "bootable app" is either Porteus-installer-for-Linux.com or Porteus-installer-for Windows.exe. They are in the ISO's /boot/ directory. Which one did you run?

Steps:
I downloaded the LXQt ISO.
Copied it to a thumb drive with something like: $ sudo dd bs=4M if=/Downloads/porteus.iso of=/dev/sdb status=progress
Tried to boot from thumb drive, but it appears not to be bootable (many Linux ISOs are bootable, I think they call it a hybrid ISO)
So, I copied the files from the ISO back to my computer.
Started Dolphin on my computer, opened the mountpoint of the ISO, opened the boot directory, and opened a konsole 'here'.
Something like: $ sudo Porteus-installer-for-Linux.com
It asked me if I was sure I wanted to install to sdb1
I said yes, and it appeared to complete without errors.
Now, my thumb drive appears to boot.
I get a quick glimpse of something like syslinux, then the Porteus Boot Menu, but when I try to hit enter on Graphical, or down-arrow to the always fresh option and hit enter, it seems as if the screen flashes (even faster than when I saw syslinux earlier) and then I see the Porteus Boot Menu again.

Live Linux distros are bootable when copied to a usb drive but Porteus is not a live distro. I think there is a usb install readme file in the base directory of the iso that may help. You probably had to reformat the usb drive.

Why do you say that?

I did indeed neglect to run isohybrid against our ISO files. This would make them bootable using your dd method. If you already used dd on your USB you may need to nuke it and start again with the procedure outlined in USB_INSTALLATION.TXT in the ISO or on the website.

I don't think you need to run the install as root. And doing so may have screwed up some permissions needed for booting.

Thank you, so I will try again, almost from the beginning.

Using the KDE Partition Manager, I:
Removed the partition from my thumb drive (/dev/sdb)
Created a new MS-DOS partition table on /dev/sdb
Clicked on the unallocated 3.73 GB and created a new partition: Primary. ext4, Label: Porteus4LXQr (Note, I did not check the boot Flag)
Opened a konsole, and navigated to where I had previously copied the ISO files I copied to my hard drive from the pen drive I created via dd. $ cd Porteus/boot
$ bash Porteus-installer-for-Linux.com did not work. I saw that the entire Porteus directory was root root. So I $ cd $HOME && sudo chown -R mparillo:mparillo Porteus
