[STICKY] Forum rules: read before posting

Fanthom as established forum rules a long while ago. This post should come back more often as a proofread shows that very few of us seems to respect completely these rules. So here they are:

Personally, amongst other, I like this proposition:
Write in clear, grammatical, correctly-spelled language

which means for me that phonetics or abbreviations should not be used.

But this is only my opinion. 8)

Also members can use abbreviations such as common forum types as per

I use them especially when it saves me time typing longer stuff and saves me from getting RSI

as RSI is not on list its an injury from typing and/or repetitive tasks

RSI is also called tendonitis.

Clearly aus9 prefers jargon. But this will be to the user's choice. Porteus forum philosophy is very open. At least up to some point set by the above forum rules.

Honestly, looking at aus9's proposed list of allowable abbreviations, how many of us do know or even want to know about CGMS? IMHO FWIW AFAIAC the list should be considerably watered down from what it is ATM.

I don't know what any of those mean. To me it is doing a TEXT message.

I don't know what some of those mean either. Texting does use a lot of abbreviations but so does IT, and it has for a long time. KB, MB, GB, Hz, GHz, ISO, USB, CD, DVD, MBR, RAM, BIOS, etc. Do you not know what any of those mean?

Common communication abbreviations that have been used in IT, and email, for a decade or two include:

LOL - Laughing Out Loud
IMO - In My Opinion
IMHO - In My Humble Opinion
FWIW - For What It's Worth
BTW - By The Way
PS - Post Script
CUL - See You Later
RIP - Rest In Peace
Plus ATM - At The Moment and Automatic Teller Machine

And if you see something you don't understand you have 2 options. 1. Ask and 2. Google.

These abbreviations " KB, MB, GB, Hz, GHz, ISO, USB, CD, DVD, MBR, RAM, BIOS, etc" are part of the computer world. The other are texting to me. So if get I them in a message to me they are wasting there time writing it.

I'm not a texting person and never will be. I get text on my flip cell phone and I just delete them. I don't even look at them.

You're welcome to be who you are and how you feel and I doubt anyone will be mad about it. But remember, life is about growing and learning, and when we stop learning, we stop living and we die.

Maybe we should start a section for those writing in acronyms or abbreviations. Personally, as jack wrote, I am turned off by jargon.

IMHO to be democratic, we should start a poll, with everyone putting up their favourite abbreviations for voting on to a list, then have a column for YES and a column for NO. (Yes: Reasonable No: Reject)

Then to satisfy Ed's viewpoint, some we do not need to learn, and some we do need to learn, in order to keep on growing.

In the last 4 month this forum went from nice forum to what we have today. Back then you could write a message and it would there but today you don't know if it will be delete, move or change. I don't even want to start a post because of that reason.

Asfar as texting here something else I thought of if for some reason cell phone stop working 3/4 of the user might or kill them self for that reason. Cell phone is the down fall of this world. To me life or talking to other is better then cell phone and texting.

If I get BAN from this forum for what I feel so be it.
