Re: Palemoon/Slimjet alternative?
It's very low priority, so probably doesn't happen unless someone contributes to it.fullmoonremix wrote:Is restoring a stabilized JIT in the road map?The JIT is disabled, as it was too unstable

@cemi... Ntk appears to be a tweaked (according to Bill Spitzak) FLTK with interesting widgets.

Do you think it could improve Fifth's (non Gtk/Qt) esthetic appearance and performance?

Re: Palemoon/Slimjet alternative?
Prettier widgets -> worse performance.

Hey Fullmoon,
Please as for the daily browser, what are your priorities e.g. benchmarks' scoring, extendability, GUI/shinness, speed/responsivity, security, stability, other point... from the highest to the lowest? Alternatively which browser is presently closest to the one of your dreams?

@cemi... worse than Gtk/Qt or FLTK? Yet... still why would a resource hungry DAW use Ntk? That would be counterproductive to Non-Sequencer's project.
I forgot to mention I'm a professional recording engineer (eg. Columbia/Sony) w/ 30 yrs experience.
@datruche... I mainly use by order of importance... PaleMoon... SlimJet... Vivaldi... Chromium. I'll probably take Otter out for a test drive soon.

Re: Palemoon/Slimjet alternative?
Fullmoon what are your *priorities* for choosing your browser of choice?
And did you look/post on Fifth github?
Please.

When choosiing a browser...
My past priorities were... support (flash.. webkit... qt...) and a small resource foot print (any lightweight fork of Firefox... Chrome... Opera).
My current priorities are...spawning (external player... eg. "djv")... removing Gtk/Qt bloat (using XCB/FLTK frontends) while maintaining standards compliance.
This is why I'm presently attempting to compile "framebuffer" (non-GTK... non-gstreamer) NetSurf w/ an xlib frontend...
Did I Post to Github? No I haven't. I'm currently a Sourceforge member.
Also... the converted (Arch) Fifth did not execute. Perhaps... because the userland is different.

Re: Palemoon/Slimjet alternative?
NTK is likely slower than FLTK and faster than gtk/qt, but I haven't tried it.

IMHO...
perhaps as fast (@ least according to Bill Spitzak). It is after all FLTK. However... it's possible the performance hit would come from the use of Cairo.

Lack of PPA support is holding back an otherwise game changing project reducing it to little more than "proof of concept".
If 'Fifth' is to achieve broad exposure (...beyond TinyCore which itself needs more) it will require more universal package support.

Re: Palemoon/Slimjet alternative?
Then it needs a volunteer who knows how to set up a ppa

Alas if I could I would. Unfortunately... that task is above my level of the food chain.
Personally... based on the specs of your browser I believe it should be the default for Porteus.
In any case... I'm sure you have a plug n' play version for TinyCore.
And I'm sure you also know how to make one for Porteus.
So make one (not for nothing this is a module request thread not a DIY/PPA one) and post the link... (Dropbox perhaps?)
in the "module" section so I can make it the default of my hardened (grsecurity) derivative.
This would not just benefit me but more importantly the Porteus community (try to consider many of us are not coders and/or developers).
Please Note: This thread is one of the top 5 in this section (over 1000 views in 4 months... that is 1 in 3 Porteus members). You have the power cemi... to change those views into downloads.
