This is the first question I read on porteus. png. I am not sure that you will have an answer on that. But you have defined intelligently the parameters. Maybe you could do some experimental testing and report.
Personally I have found that maybe you should call the porteus.png a spash screen (google key words: syslinux .png), you will be leaded to .png images all of the same size, some of them quite attractive as a replacement for porteus.png:

Re: Wallpapers configarartion for porteus.png
I think the only spec is an 8-bit 640x480 file.
You can find the call to it in: /mnt/sdxY/boot/syslinux/porteus.cfg

Re: Wallpapers configarartion for porteus.png
Hi thanks for the reply a 2 years ago i was fiddlying with easyboot (http://www.ezbsystems.com/easyboot/)and i came across a tutorial with photofilter software which has a easier procedure and a better result here is the tutorial belowfrancois wrote:Here is an howto to create splash images:

Creating the boot logo.
1) Launch Photofiltre Studio and open your stock image.
Then click on Image > Mode > Indexed Color. Check 256 colors, Diffusion and click OK.

2) Resize the image by clicking Image > Image size to 640 x 480

NOTE: If you want to keep the aspect ratio edit the canvas size. On this picture to get a 4:3 ratio we would reduce the width of the picture to 1600 (from 1920) and adjust the image size to 640x480 with "Preserve aspect ratio checked".
3) Save the image in PNG format with the name porteus.PNG

Re: Wallpapers configarartion for porteus.png
I wrote an elaborate tutorial on the topic. You can read it here: http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=4965
It should find all your answers there. If not, please post follow up questions.

Re: Wallpapers configarartion for porteus.png
Would be nice if there is an out-of-the-box Porteus module, so that you can run Photofilter on Porteus. Would that work with a minimal wine install module?anandisrocking007 wrote:Photofilter- http://www.photofiltre-studio.com/pf7-en.htm
I recall, years ago I had a Porteus wine module for Picasa, and since Picasa has some nice filters I used it quite a bit, but have not found a x86-64 version for recent Porteus... Maybe I just oversaw that, though...

Cheers!
