Suspending AIGLX clients ...

Please advise if I can solve this problem.

Background : while flicking through documents with Document Viewer, Porteus froze - no actions possible for at least 10 minutes. CTRL+ALT+DELETE had no effect. All I could do was remove the USB stick and power-off manually.

Since then, the only way to get into MATE GUI is to login and startx. This results in several screenloads of text lines, flashing the desktop image until it eventually settles down and the Desktop appears and is usable, but only for a while.

If I spend any time scrolling through documents in any application or web pages, it results in a loss of the Desktop and a black screen with many lines of text, including :-
"suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch"
"(dix) couldn't enable device 11"
"(mate-panel-1743) couldn't get packground pixmap"
"GLib-CRITICAL ... g-slice ... config: ..." (or similar)

The Desktop eventually reappears.

Anyone seen this before?
Can it be repaired, or do I need to do a complete reinstall?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Porteus or linux freezes, the emergency procedure ctrl-alt-* and more, i.e. alt+sysrq+BUSIER-reversed (REISUB: Raising Elephants Is So Utterly Boring):

Thanks for the response, Francois, and for the very helpful link.

I have used several distros over the last 5-6 years and did not know about all those "magic" codes (but I think Porteus is the first distro to completely freeze on me!).

I can't try the magic key combos now because I did a complete reinstall a couple days later.

So you had a persistance folder to save your changes. Why didn't you only removed the persistence folder?
