Well you will be pleased to know I just installed thunderbird and it showed up in the internet menu!!! I havent used it yet to see if it functions with out any trouble but I will soon find out.
I used USM then converted the package also with the option in USM then copied to the /mnt/sdb1/porteus/modules folder that is located in the main filesystem folder in a running porteus desktop. then I "activated" it by double clicking the module. Im not sure wether this part of the process had any effect or not as two dialogs came up one saying module was active and one saying something about some loop thing that I didnt understand so maybe I accidentally double clicked by accident
Anyway thanks very much for your input, on with further learning and testing of the system....

That's great! Glad you got it sorted. Not sure why the xgames didn't show in the menu. Whoever created the package probably didn't create an individual desktop file in /usr/share/applications
