Re: Porteus v3.1rc1 bug reports
@Kriss,
Thank you for the module but I'm getting this error when startup.
Xorg failed to start up - deactivating proprietary driver(s).
This is the first time I tried to build nvidia driver. I have 05-devel. But I am not sure which package to get.
I am having this card on the laptop:-
0a:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK208M [GeForce GT 740M] (rev a1)

nvidia gt740m 64bit (your card is listed under the supported products tag):
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverRe ... 9413/en-us
I think that you will need the devel.xzm module.
The procedure from an old slax thread that I wrote for my former laptop with nvidia card:
http://old.slax.org/forum.php?action=vi ... ntID=32106
The steps are done under always fresh mode:
1) Go to the nvidia site for unix drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html
2) Select your graphic card driver (mine is a serie 7, it is called 7150M).
3) The file NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.22-pkg1 once downloaded has to be turned to executable with a right click on it so to change the permission.
4) Get into console mode without changes: for a usb install boot to text mode, but at boot use Tab to edit to delete any changes= statement or for a frugal install change the menu.lst to get the same result.
5) Install the nvidia package with the following steps:
5.1 Change to the directory of the downloaded file, and then use the command:./NVIDIA* (a shortcut for the file). Be patient.
5.2 Then follow the instructions and answer:
a.Accept (software agreement) ... ,
b.no for downloading the module (they do not have the prepacked module for slax on the nvidia site)
c.yes to build the module,
d.yes to continue even if the gcc compiler version is more recent
e.yes to change xconfig
5.3 Then startx. The nvidia server settings will be found under kmenu > system.
6) Then immediately make a custom lzm from /mnt/live/memory/changes. To make the my-nvidia.xzm module use the following command:
#dir2xzm /mnt/live/memory/changes /mnt/usbstick/slax/modules/my-nvidia.xzm
Where usbstick is the name of the partition where is mounted you usbkey or your frugal install.
7) Reboot. The new porteus nvidia module should work.

HI francois,
I have tried module by lieutenantdan from this link:-
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... 40m#p29082
But it is not working same results as Kriss module.
Supposingly my card is supported by the module build by Kriss or lieutenantdan as indicated by your link.

Re: Porteus v3.1rc1 bug reports
That's strange... I'm currently playing "Star Wars: The Old Republic" (relatively new mmorpg) using the driver I posted on GeForce GTX 560 Ti and everything is fine.
I'm currently using Porteus 3.1rc1 x86_64 LXQt (+KDE because I prefer kwin with rounded corners over openbox in LXQt).

Suggestions/corrections/additions are always welcome.
Re: Porteus v3.1rc1 bug reports
hi cttan, you can follow francois step, but with the 304.123 nvidia driver version, with slackware this is the only version that compile without trick.

Hi Beny,
I think there is a confusion but francois has pointed out that my card is supported by latest driver 340.58 under this link:-
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverRe ... 9413/en-us
I am having this card in the laptop:-
0a:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK208M [GeForce GT 740M] (rev a1)
I have downloaded Kriss build for 340.58 but unable to get it working.

Re: Porteus v3.1rc1 bug reports
hi cttan, shure that you have a single video card in your laptop?or a bumblebee system.ok i think if you want try the 304.123,that for shure compiling without issue, just to see if your system can build it.in init 3 you can build it out of x, and if come in ,you can save changes like francois suggest you. and you can use all driver you want, but the new version have a separate way to upgrade some video libs, so the 304.123 choice, that have all in.

Re: Porteus v3.1rc1 bug reports
I have tried to install the Nvidia driver by booting into text mode and running the run file by blacklisting nouveau.
The installation actually completed without any problem. Here is the log
nvidia-installer.log
Full log here:-
http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=gByervPE
I start up the Xwindow and here is the log.
Xorg.0.log
Even after rebooting Porteus by putting Nvidia and Bumblebee(from brokenman) in module folder. I'm still getting this error:-
Xorg failed to start up - removing invalid /etc/X11/xorg.conf
/etc/X11/xorg.conf

@cttan:
Surprising that lieutenantdan's module does not work for you. From the nvidia site, nvidia driver 340.46 should cover your gt740m 64bit. Maybe you should exchange with lieutenantdan on his thread to see what is missing for you? Detailing the steps you went thru will give him or brokenman some cue about what is going wrong.
