Anyway, I noticed that my puppy files showed a generic icon and wanted to change that. After hours of searching and failing it was actually this forum that game me the answer. I decided to make a GUI to make things easier, it uses gtkdialog and the yad icon browser which is included. The menu entry is in settings in Xfce, you might have to tweak the .desktop file for other desktops.
Right click and save link as
