Can't get Bluez work
I'm a proud Porteus 3.0 desktop Edition user, and i was trying to use my bluetooth dongle. i installed Bluez, but "hcitool dev" command always returns "Devices:" and nothing else.
My dongle is actually working with Lubuntu installed in 2 different PC (even the one where i boot Porteus), when connected in Porteus it start flashes normally, and it's seen by "lsusb".
So i tried to give "/etc/init.d/bluetooth status" but in init.d there isn't any "bluetooth" file.
by now to start bluetooth i installed modules (converted in .xzm from Ubuntu .deb files), but no luck:
dpkg_1.16.1.2
libc6_2.15.0
upstart_1.5.0
libnih1_1.0.3.4
libnih-dbus1_1.0.3.4
gir1.2-gst-plugins-base-1.0_1.2.0
gstreamer1.0-x_1.2.0
libvisual-0.4.0
intscripts_2.8
libreadline6_6.2-9
libdev1_204-0
lsb-base_4.1
module-int-tools_9-3
bluez-hcidump-2.4
bluez-firmware-1.2
libxml2_2.9.1+dfsg1-3
libgstreamer0.10-0_0.10.36
libgstreamer-plugins-base.10-0_0.10.36
bluez-gstreamer_4.101-0
bluez_4.101-0
libusb-0.1-4_0.1.12.23.2
libdbus-1-3_1.6.12-0
python3-dbus_1.2.0-2
udev_204-0
Can you tell me what moduleshave i to install to get my dongle find?

Re: Can't get Bluez work
Porteus is based on Slackware so using so many debian packages may destroy the system.
please boot into 'Always Fresh' mode -> install bluez and bluez firmware (choose slackware-14.1 and you arch) from here: http://packages.slackware.com/ -> start bluez with 'sh /etc/rc.d/rc.bluetooth start' comamnd -> check if 'hciconfig' command returns something.
if it doesnt then please generate 'psinfo' report, upload it to pastebin.com and link here.
thanks

Re: Can't get Bluez work
Thank you very much for your answer!
i followed all your steps but i still can't see my dongle.
i installed two packages you said for my arch, and the command 'sh /etc/rc.d/rc.bluetooth start' is executed without any error.
When i try tu run 'hciconfig' it tells me that the command is unknown.
'hcitools dev' still doesn't find any device.
here is my psinfo:
http://pastebin.com/qhzySTwV
tkanks again.

Re: Can't get Bluez work
first of all - you are running in 'Alwasy Fresh' mode so i hope that you are aware that your changes wont persist the reboot.
now - please run /usr/sbin/hciconfig as root and show me the output (paste all lines from the console).
your hardware seems to be initialized:
so everything should be ok (unless some firmware is missing but i can't see anything in dmesg)
thanks

Re: Can't get Bluez work
@Tziga
What is your Porteus DE?
Mine is Kde4 and I have installed bluedevil-1.2.2 and bluez-4.99 only, and my Bluetooth dongle works....
When I steck the dongle, in 2 seconds the machine answers with "Bluetooth is On" when I hover the mouse over the Bluetooth sign
Elemental, Watson 8)
Regards!

Porteus is proud of the FASTEST KDE ever made.....(take akonadi, nepomuk and soprano out and you will have a decent OS).

Re: Can't get Bluez work
all the code i posted in my previous posts was made with that dongle plugged in.
this one:

but when i try your last command to switch the hci0 on, i get that timeout error, so i tried with the other dongle (and it worked

Re: Can't get Bluez work
unfortunately googling 'Can't init device hci0: Connection timed out (110)' return too many hits (ranging from kernel bug to incorrect shutting down of the system) so i cant give you precise answer.
you have to try all resolutions yourself till you find the correct one for your hardware.
