Can't connecting Nook HD+
Ok, how do I do it, because I get a long complicated error message. I know this is a problem in other Linux distros/gui's but I couldn't find anything specific for KDE. For Linux Mint there was a suggestion to change the storage settings to MPT transfer mode, however in Porteus KDE I don't see any storage settings. What do I do. I am new to Porteus, somewhat, so please be clear and complete in your explanation.

Hi chosenbygrace. If you are using porteus 3.0 with KDE, to access your device open dolphin and in the location bar enter: If that doesn't work it sounds like you need to create a dbus rule for your device.
If you like I can create a module for you, I just need the device info... To get that plug in the device and run "lsusb" from Terminal. should come out like this: (but for your device)
Otherwise If you want to do it yourself there is a how to for samsung s3 here
What OS is does nook use? Android?
Code: Select all
:/mtp

Bus 001 Device 006: ID 04e8:685c Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd
That setting is on the phone/tablet. That option might not be available until the device is connected by usb.For Linux Mint there was a suggestion to change the storage settings to MPT transfer mode, however in Porteus KDE I don't see any storage settings.

Re: Can't connecting Nook HD+
i pasted lsub in the terminal (nice to be able to right click and paste, and what a beautiful coloration and design it has in comparison to the ubuntu version) and it gave me this:
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub

Bus 002 Device 006: ID 1a40:0101 Terminus Technology Inc. Hub
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 2080:0005 Barnes & Noble
Bus 002 Device 009: ID 198f:8160 Beceem Communications Inc.
If you meant there is some menu command, I saw none.
Typing : /mpt in the dolphin location field did nothing, or rather gave me a little error message of some sort. By the way the error message I got when trying to access the nook, which uses a custom android, is:
The file or folder udi=/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.4/2-1.4.3 does not exist.

Apparently the relevant part of the long output message on the terminal is:
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 2080:0005 Barnes & Noble
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 2080:0005 Barnes & Noble

Re: Can't connecting Nook HD+
By the way, while you're at this, if you can come up with some way for me to install CyanogenMod 10.2 on it using a live version of porteus that would be nice. I have no hard drive to use at the moment, i do but it has data on it i dont want to risk overwriting. I can get a spare SD card. I tried xdadevelopers explanation for ubuntu, but USBwriter and gparted would not work right or couldn't see my usb stick or sd card.

Re: Can't connecting Nook HD+
which porteus version are you using?
if 2.1 then please wait 2 days and upgrade to 3.0 final. if 3.0rc2 then go to network -> mtp in the dolphin sidebar.
if that wont work then you may have to set your device as multimedia storage and transfer files from the sd card:

Please add [Solved] to your thread title if the solution was found.

Re: Can't connecting Nook HD+
As long as you have enough space on your usb to download the cyanogenmod rom its no problem. There should be a few guides on the net on how to install it. As I recall its a matter of copying the files onto your device, putting it in root, installing clockwork recovery onto your device, rebooting in recovery mode and installing the cyanogenmod rom.chosenbygrace wrote:By the way, while you're at this, if you can come up with some way for me to install CyanogenMod 10.2 on it using a live version of porteus that would be nice
Until porteus 3.0 final comes out here is module that should make your device available for now. just copy it into the modules folder and reboot.

Re: Can't connecting Nook HD+
I don't know which version, I went to the build site and downloaded whatever I made about 20 days ago I think.
By the way, in the new version, can you please include Thunderbird if you're the one making the new distro, because I don't understand the IMAP app and it's annoying. Looks way better than thunderbird but I can't fig out how to add a single email and don't want to try, my brain is drained. Oh yeah WHERE IN THE WORLD IS WINE? I was hoping to use wine to use a portable version of thunderbird, then found out to my amazement it's not in porteus. Was it too big? How about make it an option?

Re: Can't connecting Nook HD+
You can add any packages you like to porteus. I'm sure there would be both thunderbird and wine modules available and maybe even some other programs you might want in the i486 xzm modules section of this forum.

Re: Can't connecting Nook HD+
I'm using a live cd, I have no hard drive, is there a way to install porteus to an SD card or usb stick with a live CD? i tried doing it already via ubuntu from a hard disk and it wouldn't boot, and i and another person noticed GPARTED cannot see USBs and SDs, which is part of the prob. If you can make video and show on youtube how to instal port. to a usb or sd I'd appreciate it.freestyler wrote:As long as you have enough space on your usb to download the cyanogenmod rom its no problem. Re: Can't connecting Nook HD+
An easy way is to download unetbootin module.
Tick the ISO box, Select the Porteus ISO and click ok.
