Hello there,
I hate that every post of mine on this forum is asking for help! I recently dug out my old netbook and threw Porteus 2.1 (LXDE) on it, seems to be running gorgeously and I love that now Chrome and Skype can come pre-installed for me.
However, I tried to make a skype call, and while my webcam and microphone were recognized, I couldn't hear my friend. I tried to run a youtube video to test the sound and likewise got nothing.
The Porteus settings centre popped up an error when I attempted to modify sound settings: "One or fewer sound cards were found on your system, so this utility is not needed". I found some posts discussing alsamixer so I tried running that from the terminal; I found an auto-mute that I changed to disabled but it appeared to change nothing. And on my next reboot it reverted back to enabled so I haven't the slightest idea where to go from here.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: No sound
Can you please enter the porteus settings centre and at the top hit the information button. From the info screen that pops up please dump a full system report and upload it to pastebin (it will probably ask if you want to automate this). This will help a lot.
I take it that inside alsamixer the main speakers were not muted? This can sometimes be the case.
This is also worth taking a look at: http://alsa.opensrc.org/TroubleShooting
