I have noticed the laptop goes into lock screen when idle for a while.
But when I move the mouse the lock screen is gone and I am able to work again.

I have noticed the laptop goes into lock screen when idle for a while.

after 5 mins you'll have to provide a password. i think you could change that in kde4 systemsettings.
btw: moving your last 2 threads to kde4 section as they are kde4 desktop related.
