Sorry for the delay, I've not had a lot of time to work on this, but it's coming along slowly. There are more than thirty missing dependencies that I'll need to add before there's any hope of printing working; I think I have all of them resolved but firefox is still restarting when it tries opening in kiosk. I'll keep working on this and let you know when I have more info and a module ready.
Please take a look at our online documentation, here. Suggestions are welcome!

haven't heard anything from Ahau since few weeks so not sure if there is any progress. i could implement printing support for kiosk in early October (moving house next week so will be busy till then) but there is one problem: i do not own any printer myself.

if someone could send me hardware (could be old but must be fully functional) then i could start working on this feature for kiosk. if this is not an option then we must wait on Ahau's comeback.

@kimlop:
Just tell us what is the printer make and mode. that you want to run kiosk on.

@fanthom:
I am a little far to send the printer. Maybe you can borrow one from a neighbor.

An option for you would be to build kiosk with CUPS and send it to me. I will test it on my printer, then I could provide the ppd specific to kimlop printer. We could even this way advance Ahaus project. :)

Bump for Ahau, if kimlop could manifest some interest. I hope this is not too late. :oops:

Hi,

Has there been any headway made on this. I really like what Porteus Kiosk has to offer and would like to deploy it for a client that runs a large retail store, but printing is a requirement.

I made some headway but never got it to work. I got it to the point where all dependencies were resolved and everything appeared to be in order, cups was showing that it was sending the document to the printer, but nothing ever came out of the printer. I got burned out trying to get this sorted but perhaps it's time to try again -- I'll give priority to critical bugs in lxde/xfce and desktop edition print pack, but try again on this. Unfortunately, it likely means pulling apart the whole system and cobbling together a hybrid of sorts between standard edition and the kiosk edition so that I can eventually drill down to the particular files involved. It's just very time consuming when I don't regularly have much time to test it out when I'm in front of a printer and am not getting any useable information from logs. Or, it could be something very simple that I have just missed :oops: Thanks for voicing your interest and for everyone's patience!

@Ahau
i would suggest you to enable ssh access and use it for monitoring/copying files to kiosk through scp.
i would also go with kernel from standard edition to see if the issue is not kernel related.
just in case - i hope you had firewall disabled totally at the time of testing?

as wrote above - i could do the job within a week or two but need a hardware. let's open first bounty for kiosk (sorry but i'm not going to buy a printer myself as i dont need it).
here are the printer prices in Ireland:
http://www.pcworld.ie/category/All-In-One-Printers/314

if we gather 100e then i'll buy the printer and do the job. would be good if someone could advice me on which one too choose (price up to 100e).
must be wireless and with many features as i want to cover all scenarios possible.

will link the bounty page on the kiosk wizard when ready so it will be visible to all kiosk users and interested people may start donating.
will start working on this feature once we reach 100e and i get the hardware (hopefully ever).
fingers crossed :)

Is this offer still active? I need the kiosk printing feature asap and would pay for the printer.

Kind regards,

Sorcuring
