Two things I've noticed since using Porteus:
1. I have my system clock set to localtime, but I have to go into Porteus settings and change that every time I boot up (I have changes=EXIT:/porteus set).
2. I had installed Porteus before without changes=EXIT, but when I switched over to that the X window system would just continually start and then restart. I don't entirely remember the error right this second :/ I did a clean install with changes=EXIT from the first boot, and it's been fine, so I think it was just because I changed it. However before I did a clean install, I changed it back to just changes=/porteus, and it still was an x restart loop.

Re: Time and changes=EXIT
hello ThePilot,
a) pleas have a look on /boot/docs/cheatcodes.txt and 'timezone=' cheat in particular
b) if you still have a problems with getting into GUI then please boot to 'text mode' -> login as root -> launch startx -> break the process with ctrl+c save /var/log/messages and /var/log/Xorg.0.log on usb/hd -> reboot to any working system -> upload logs to pastebin.com and link here for a review
thanks
