It's strange, porteus USED to boot smoothly on my Lenovo flash disk (fomatted as ntfs). But today I could only get a vesamenu and "Loading vmlinuz..." The following "starting live-init" just disappered and then the machine rebooted.
I test porteus on another flash stick (kingston data traveller, formatted as fat32) and everything just is OK.
Any ideas about how should I handle this problem?
Porteus won't boot on ntfs driver?

Re: Porteus won't boot on ntfs driver?
Please try to format the key that "doesn't works" in fat32 and try again. If this doesn't works too then we'll be sure that the problem is coming from Porteus itself.I test porteus on another flash stick (kingston data traveller, formatted as fat32) and everything just is OK.
Also, I have deleted your other post. Please avoid to do so in the future. One post is sufficient.

It WORKS this time after I format my Lenovo flash disk as fat32.
But the problem remains: Porteus DID work on ntfs device before. How come it failed in my case?

Can you format it to ntfs once again and give it a new try?

I doubt it. I can't risk my data security since I've formatted the disk for quite many times.Hamza wrote:Can you format it to ntfs once again and give it a new try?

I have used Porteus on NTFS partitions for past 2 years and this always worked. I can't figure where your problem is.

Re: Porteus won't boot on ntfs driver?
Did you change anything on the device before it stopped working? For example, did you upgrade to the newer version of Porteus, or have another device plugged in with Porteus installed on it? If the answer to both of those questions is no, then it sounds like there was some kind of corruption on the disk or inside your saved changes. If this were to happen again, please try rebooting into 'always fresh' mode, and if that failed, try booting with the 'debug' cheatcode. If your kernel and initrd were intact, that would get you to a command line where you could gather more information.
Please take a look at our online documentation, here. Suggestions are welcome!

Re: Porteus won't boot on ntfs driver?
A bad news came when I used the command in windows 7
(where h: is for my flash stick)
and applied the porteus install for windows, it failed to boot again.
And this time, I even couldn't see the vesamenu!(but a line that read 'Syslinux ...' instead)
May be I'd better give up an ntfs flash drive?
Code: Select all
convert h: /fs:ntfs
and applied the porteus install for windows, it failed to boot again.
