Feedback and Bug Reports for Porteus v2.1 RC1

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

@payoon:
If you want, the ppd for your printer is also provided on openprinting for you brother printer (no need to convert the rpm to xzm module):
http://www.openprinting.org/ppd-o-matic ... 030&show=0
http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Bro ... er-HL-2030

Try with config-system-printer interface:
panel > system > printing > provide a ppd file

Hello,

I am experiencing issues with my tray task bar. When I minimize programs in tray, nothing appears in tray near clock.
Please, anybody else have this issue?

I am on KDE v2.1 RC1.

Best regards,
amplatfus

@wread
KDevelop does not work; it complains the libraries 4.10.4 are incompatible, and that, for KDevelop- 4.5.0 and kdevplatform-1.5.0, the latest version of this application! It is a pity, but i will have to make use of my former, unofficial Porteus KDE4-32-bits that uses 4.9.5 libraries when I want to run KDevelop...
it's quite normal that when you bump core libs then 3rd part apps may break. we have two choices:
a) stick to kde4 version used in slackware (for about 18 months till new slackware is released)
b) bump kde4 and recompile apps which stops working
i'm personally in favor of the second option.

i dont understand. when you minimize application then it's getting hidden on the task bar and not on the tray.
please write the app name, how exactly you are minimizing it and which behavior you expect.
Please add [Solved] to your thread title if the solution was found.

I have tried brasero coming with the mate module. No luck too. The only software working for me now is k3b that I built from txz packages.

For many burning applications the result will depend on what you are burning. Extra deps (such as mpg123 etc) will be needed when dealing with video and mp3. This is a difficult task finding a light weight burner that covers everything. I do more tests and try another application that Ahau suggested> Thanks Francois.

Giving it a second thought, I think you are right, fanthom. Besides, the KDevelop Team noticed the flop and reacted instantly: view my EDIT from 25 June.

Regards!
Porteus is proud of the FASTEST KDE ever made.....(take akonadi, nepomuk and soprano out and you will have a decent OS).

Dear All,

Thanks for your remarkable effort on developing Porteus. :beer:
I tried all 32 bit 2.1 versions and presently I focused on LXDE, It is pretty good specially when I found that you replaced epdfview with evince :)

:wall: as per hamza, Erased suggestions for the wizard.
I am sure that you guys know everything better than me :good:

I found few problems with lxde,
1. Audacious could not play mp3
2. notifications on the screen for example volume is repeating over the screen instead of staying in one place.

p.s. on the packed iso provided on main thread please remove firefox as we can download it on modules section there.

However, I have plenty of ideas for the wizard, that I hope that make the process way much better.

I don't understand what's the problem. I didn't see any of your suggestions. Feel free to open a separate topic about this and I'll be happy to have a look on implementing them if they looks good ;)

@all

I tried downloading Porteus v2.1 RC1 x86-64 using the wizard, but the page http://www.porteus.org/downloads.html only gives me 2.0...
Do I read the posts on the first page of this thread wrong that mention using the wizard? These posts not sound like the Kiosk version... :unknown:
Cheers!
Yours Rava

ON LXDE 32BIT:
1. As for Audacious, I got this error after trying to open a mp3 file.
No Decoder found for file:///mnt/sda3/music/Death_Cosmic-Sea.mp3
It feels like there is a missing lib.. I got audacious-plugins-3.3.1-i486-1.txz and try reinstalling it but the issue persists :no:

2. As for crazy notifications shown on the screen, you may face it while trying to turn up the volume from keyboard.

default ISO is for demonstration purposes only so shipping it without a browser would be not very smart. users familiarized with porteus supposed to use the wizard to get the stuff they want and not default ISO.
same applies to Kiosk ISO (demonstration only) and kiosk wizard (real power is here).

Ahau probably resolved LXDE bugs already as he released updated lxde module:

or
