Hamza has created a new set of config files for the Porteus Package manager which i have tested and found to increase the speed of updating the slackware database by 200%+.
I would appreciate any testers that can confirm a substantial speed increase. You can get the config files here
Step 1) Copy slackyd.conf to /etc/slackyd/slackyd.conf (Make sure you get correct architecture version)
Step 2) Copy slacky.conf (from PPM folder) to /etc/ppm/slacky.conf
Step 3) Copy slackware.conf (from PPM folder) to /etc/ppm/slackware.conf
Step 4) Remove any existing slackware database files: rm -rf /opt/ppm/slack*
Step 5) Select 'update slackware database' from the PPM top menu under 'updates'
Step 6) Post how many seconds the update took to complete
http://www.online-stopwatch.com/full-screen-stopwatch/
Thanks in advance.
EDIT:\\
Please do the test more than 2 times.

Oh boy :-( ,
If you guys lived close I'd invite you over to pound my head with a big hammer. It must really be frustrating working with a "knows just enough to get in trouble all the time" computer wiz (NOT) like me. Keep in mind that I'm working with USB Thumb Drives of Porteus only. Also I'm working with some pretty old hardware here:

Okay, fortunately I did save the old .conf files and was able to do a before/after test. Here are my results for testing the Slackware Database "Updates":
1 - 32bit Porteus "2.0rc2" LXDE (works so well, I just can't seem to delete it :-):
Before new "configs" = 1:37 (97 seconds)
After new "configs" = 1:09 (69 seconds)
2 - 32bit Porteus "2.0 Final" LXDE
Before new "configs" = 1:29 (89 seconds)
After new "configs" = 1:04 (64 seconds)
3 - 32bit Porteus "2.0rc1" MATE
Before new "configs" = 1:40 (100 seconds)
After new "configs" = 1:00 (60 seconds)
I should also say that this is for the download time only, I did not include "make to module" time.
Sorry if I haven't been, but wish I were, as helpful to you as you have been to me :-)

Not frustrating at all. Your email to me contained a little more info than your initial post and was sufficient. Your second post is more than enough info to confirm positive results.
Thanks to all.
