Well i think what sorted the problem might have been to edit cupsd.conf
SystemGroup lpadmin
listen localhost:631
listen *:631
I also had to install foomatic-filters & ghostscript too ....
The printer is perfect now.

Are you running porteus 2.1 with the 07-printing.xzm module, or are you running an older version and/or a custom printer driver module?
The default printing module for 2.1 comes with cups-bjnp which is required for printing over a network on some canon printers. I can't tell you how long it took me to figure that one out -- my printer (Canon Pixma MG5300) would work when connected via usb but not over wifi, even though everything appeared as if it was working normally. No error messages, just nothing came out of the printer. HTH -- if not, try booting 2.1 with print module without saved changes and give it a shot and let me know if the error logs change and what happens.
Please take a look at our online documentation, here. Suggestions are welcome!

I hope that cups 1.6 will solve your problem. It is supposed to work directly to pdf format instead of passing thru ps. I wonder what impact this will have on our porteus print pack?

Have you tried a factory reset on your printer?

Just an idea like that. My brother printer has such a function called factory reset:
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BS ... l5070n_all
I thought that canon printers would have such a function. 8)
It seems that such operation is possible on canon printers:
http://www.ehow.com/how_5943494_perform ... inter.html
Often a hard reset of the printer will resolve issues with communication between the printer and the computer.
