Printer doesn't get recognized.

My Brother printer is found, but the correct printer drivers aren't listed in the menu.

I first went to the Porteus files and downloaded + activated the 07-printing-x86_64-2023-09-23.xzm and 07-printing-lxde-lxqt-openbox-xfce-x86_64-2023-09-23.xzm files (I use Openbox) here: https://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/por ... 1/modules/.

Then I went to the Brother site (https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloa ... ng=English) and downloaded the LPR and Cups printer files under Printer Drivers, converted them to .xzm files using the file manager menu and activated them.

I then restarted CUPS:

Then I inserted the printer USB cable into my PC, started the web UI (using Firefox 128.0esr (64-bit)for Porteus 5.0) and it found the printer, but I can't find it in the drivers menu.


What am I doing wrong? I also don't know what a PPD file is or if it's somewhere on the brother website.

Do you use 64 or 32 bit driver for Brother?
Try to setup printer via system-config-printer.

system-config-printer is the way to go as blaze is proposing.

I have a brother MFC brother printer and it works out of the box.
