I try porteux-v0.3-xfce-4.18-stable-x86_64 on USB stick
It often won't boot, hangs
loading /boot/syslinux/vmlinuz...
I wait and wait and nothing happens
The error occurs often, but not always.
What can be the reason?

Hi beny,
you did not understand me.
The boot process begins and then hangs: "loading /boot/syslinux/vmlinuz..."
Then there's nothing I can do
The only possibility: switch off brutally

Thanks Ed_P for the tip.
I found information on the internet on how to clean USB ports.
After cleaning, the error has not occurred again.

When Switching from Porteus 5.0 to PorteuX
scripts need to be rewritten.
for example:
dir2xzm XfceFolder ConfigXfce4.xzm
works in Porteus 5.0
In PorteuX, the filename ConfigXfce4 is ignored.
You need two commands:
dir2xzm XfceFolder
mv XfceFolder.xzm ConfigXfce4.xzm
I therefore have to change a number of scripts.

It would be helpful if the browser, in my case Firefox, defaulted to the Porteus forum if no homepage has been set. The Firefox option to download bookmarks from other browsers doesn't find any to download on my system, of which there are several Firefox backups.

Using PorteuX 0.3 XFCE 4.12 stable, I've found a few "minor..." flaws that I will list below:
- Right-click --> Open Root Window Here doesn't work for me
- ./porteux-main/000-kernel/createModule.sh exits with error "No space left on device..." (Screenshot shows I have 32Gb mem system...)
- ./porteux-main/003-mate/ apparently works, but ends and I can't find any builded module for MATE desktop...

M. Eerie,
1- In Xfce the right click action in the file manager (Thunar) is not 'Open Root Window Here', but 'Open as Root...' and it should work in Always Fresh -- at least it works for me.
2- You're trying to build the kernel yourself, right? If that's what you really wanna do, I need to tell you that currently building the kernel requires lots of RAM because of the optimizations. You can move the output files to a storage unit instead of a system folder (which is in RAM). To do that, change the variable PORTEUXBUILDERPATH in the builder-utils/setflags.sh script to something beginning with /mnt/[unit] (where [unit] is the unit you want, like sda1) instead of /tmp.

hi M.eire also when i build kernel with the neko's software i have to choice the root of the usb or sd you can build everything you want on it is writeable like this
/mnt/sdh1/zoom... is an example,in a system you can gain space with the save.dat options when is loaded you have the space of the save.dat ready to use now i have a 10 giga running

Thanks!
Seems like I successfully built the 6.1.27 kernel and the Ethernet works from the start. Still, the optimization routine eating more than 10Gb seems to be in need of optimization itself

Indeed it works in Always Fresh. I'll have to look at what I'm crushing.

SimpleScan works for me on Porteus 5.0
but it doesn't work on PorteuX
(I am using porteux-v0.3-xfce-4.16-stable-x86_64.iso):
I think inside Porteus 5.0 Xfce is also Xfce-4.16 ?
So there are GLIBC problems.
but it doesn't work on PorteuX
(I am using porteux-v0.3-xfce-4.16-stable-x86_64.iso):
Code: Select all
guest@porteux:/mnt/sdb1$ ./SimpleScan
simple-scan: /lib64/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.34' not found (required by simple-scan)
So there are GLIBC problems.
