I have no idea why Wine for Slackware has increased its size by this much since version 7.5 :no:I have no idea why Wine for Slackware has increased its size by this much since version 7.5

What size would a Wine 7.5 module have when created for Porteus 5.0?
Cheers!

It depends, sometimes a xzm module is smaller than the txz package, and sometimes it is bigger.
One can experiment with the xz compression settings, but often smaller filesize is longer decompression and larger filesize is quicker decompression.

also the home .wine folder is now 1.2G compared to just 80MB with the old wine-6.22. I hope it's worth it, now just to expand the Wine 7 subsystem I need around 2GB!

Doesn't that mean that the usual setup - having the home folder in the RAM-disc - would crash the normal user's system?
Since hardly anyone would have set up their system to have such a large RAM disc. Or is one asked during setup where to have the files sit outside /home/guest and then a symlink is created to that place, e.g. to /mnt/sda2/home/guest/wine7-home-guest/

Rava, not sure, mine was on the ext4 changes folder on my USB stick, too heavy anyway and I compressed it into an xzm module (still 300MB!) with:
Code: Select all
COMP_ZSTD="-comp zstd -b 256K -Xcompression-level 22"
root@porteus:~# mksquashfs /root/.wine /tmp/dotwine.xzm $COMP_ZSTD -noappend -no-strip

Just for comparison, I made my root partition smaller than average:
Code: Select all
root@porteus:/tmp# df -m /
Filesystem Type 1M-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
aufs aufs 388 82 307 21% /
Now sure what would happen would I try installing Wine-7.

Cheers!

Could anyone provide a .xzm module of this
wine-6.22 version? The size jump in .wine folder is too much for me, I want to keep things as minimal as possible on this USB for future proofing.

Good question, at least a search with the forum search only gave results for
wine-7.15-x86_64 (duh!) and
wine-5.15-x86_64
Cheers!

It#s not the 6.22 -- but it's only 93.82 MB.

I presume this one will do:
Multilib Ultra Lite for Porteus 5 final release
Added in 7 minutes 19 seconds:
I hope my md5sums are both correct:
Code: Select all

Thank you guys! Good to know there's still an older version with a respectable small size that is compatible with Porteus 5.0 (the .wine jump with 7.15 being more than 10 times the size is still so surprising for me! I wonder what was added/changed that caused this huge leap)
Here's my MD5 for the file

I tried finding the mentioned 6.22 … but no luck.
Well, the wine-7.0-x86_64.xzm is okay with its 93.82 MB.
Cheers!
