@jssouza , Well I try your latest build of Cinnamon and brokenman latest build of Porteus. I booted it up on my Acer and use EFI and it works I will test it this week to see if it has any problem. I seen it only has 1 desktop I need at lease 4. The only thing I seen so far was the mouse pointer it is choppy.

Over all you did a great job and when will work on Mate?

Thanks Jack, please note it is for Porteus 4 and not Porteus current. So expect troubles if you mix and match the base (you mentioned choppiness), since CINNAMON is not that forgiving.
For 4 desktops:
- Right click on the panel
- Select add applets to the panel
- Select Workspace Switcher from the installed applets menu
- Click on the + button at the bottom to add it to the panel
- Click on the Configure button (the button with the 2 gears at the rigtht of this menu item, next to the lock button)
- Change Type of Display from "A visual representation of the workspaces" to "Simple buttons" if you want

I will work on MATE once a stable base is put out.

jssouza if I click on the Download button at the top of the Applets window it says: Your cache is out of date. And asks: Would you like to update is now? I clicked Yes and a whole bunch of Applets appeared!

I clicked on the top one named Weather and then it's down arrow and got an error message. Details: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'msgfmt': 'msgfmt'. I tried a couple of other weather related applets and got the same error msg.

Where should this msgfmt file or directory be created and how??

Never mind jssouza I found a way to manually add a weather applet to Cinnamon.

Hi Ed_P,

It is not finding the msgfmt command during installation of the applet. The msgfmt command is in the 05-devel module. Activate 05-devel module and then install the applet. 05-devel module is needed only during installation of the applet and not during its usage.

I thought the error msg was referring to a file or directory.

Anyways, in case anyone is interested I found that if I:
- Right click on the panel
- Select add applets to the panel
- Select Download
- Select Yes to update the cache - takes a minute to download 151 applet names
- Select the Weather applet
- Select the more info option at the bottom of the window - far left option
- On the Cinnamon Spices window that opened in the browser I noted the white install instructions at the top of the page. I also was blown away with all the Cinnamon applets and desklets available.

- I then downloaded the Weather applet and extracted the weather@mockturtl directory to the ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets directory.
- I then went back to the Applet window and clicked on the Manage button and there was the Weather applet.

I clicked on the applet then the + option at the bottom and I had a weather applet.

I've wanted one for ages.

I configured it and now see the outside temp on my panel and details when I click on it. A great applet.

BTW The Weather applet's config file is saved in the ~/.cinnamon/configs/weather@mockturtl/ directory.
