In search of some useful GPL or free applications without publicity for android phone, this is your thread. From what I know there are a few. Here is my demand.

Do you know an app that permits sms thru wifi to lower the cost of such a use of the phone?

All of the following are free @ Google Play
(most with ads that monetize development)
and most do not require "rooting"...

for starters (remember that "apk" mileage may vary so always configure wisely)...
Puffin (web browser)... RAR... Foobar2000... VLC (by VLC)... Power Clean... SD Maid

and so you can switch from GoogleDNS to Cisco System's ""faster/secure" OpenDNS
DNSChanger (by the VPN Company)

for the security minded...
NoRoot Firewall... Orbot... Orfox...
Aloha (free VPN)... ProtonMail...

a noteworthy "apk"...
Polipoid... aka Squid (software) proxy (used w/ Sandroproxy using the http/https "chain" proxy setting 0.0.0.0:8123)

more noteworthy "apk" @ Google Play...
Sandroproxy... (HTTPs/DNS cache) to proxy "chain" web browsers through Polipoid which requires activating Sandroproxy's "log" (start) button @ every boot.

mobile provider workarounds @ Google Play...
Connection Stabilizer Booster... keeps a mobile/WiFi connection from disconnecting
Wifi Mac Changer... spoofs your MAC address
Netshare-no-tethering... (by Kaleel) to create a wifi "hotspot"
4G Only Network Mode... (mitigates provider throttling by forcing 4G/LTE only... instead of slower 2G/GSM)

and finally... rooted "apk" for the truly fearless [not4n00bs!!!]...

One way to get FOSS apps for Android is to use Fdroid

https://f-droid.org/

From there you can choose many ones. I like termux

And after installing it, one can get many packages. I have successfully installed clang and can build programs on the phone. It(phone) can do many things. I can run scripts on the phone, run gnuplot, imagemagick, ghostscript, mpv, ..., etc. If you have plenty of space you can install texlive and typeset beautiful mathematics books

If you are short on space and memory kertex comes to the rescue and you can also run it on your android phone please see
