What are the 'must have' apps in the categories below?

Please help my latest project by adding apps that you think are worthy to the list.

What type of user experience are you trying to provide. I think if you need the must have's. There are already hundreds of distro's with that base.
My personal must haves is a short list comparatively.

Slackware vanilla:
A. development package as an option (removable or not) with kernel headers included (to build a graphic driver or whatever as in slackware)
B. web browser (my preference is Seamonkey on tight hardware, and Chromium on better, can be Firefox4), the faster the better, Seamonkey has HTML editor
C. XPDF (evince won't hurt, but xpdf is simply essential)
D. Konqueror (ever waded trough many downloaded web pages) the "battle cruiser/has it all" app IMHO
E. (KDE4 or-)Trinity/XFCE/fluxbox as X option (inter swappable)
F. moudepad/kwrite
G. Midnight commander (*must have*)
H. rest of A series of Slackware (stripped down)
I. GIMP, ristretto (or comix), aalib
J. a mail client (Seamonky? Kmail? thunderbird? to go by web?)
K. irc client (kopete?)
then:
L. transmission
M. office as option: Koffice/GNOME office/Open office (now two there)
L. vector graphics: Inkscape and blender3D as option
M. i use krusader on occasion, krename, a hex editor (besides mcedit) and
N. lots of games as sets and separate modules (depending on size)

What type of user experience are you trying to provide?

I am creating a 'Porteus bundle builder` where users can choose from a category, then select which apps they prefer. All packages and dependencies will then be downloaded to a chosen directory. It is a prelude to a package manager, but in this case it will be premade packages on our official server.

I'd like to use the raw packages from slackware/slacky for the package manager, but it will be more difficult for me to write a dependency resolver. If i modify the slackware packages and add PACKAGES REQUIRED: then it becomes a whole lot easier. This is where the xzm team will need to do a little work modifying slackware packages.

The process to modify slackware packages. (I will write a script to automate this somewhat)

1. Boot to an always fresh default install of porteus.
2. activate chosen slackware module
3. run slackyd -d and make note of missing required libraries
4. allow slacky to download missing packages or find them elsewhere if slacky can't resolve

Open the /var/log/packages file in the chosen package and change the following.

change PACKAGE LOCATION: ---> PACKAGE CATEGORY: internet (for example)
add a line PACKAGE REQUIRED: library-one.so, lib2.so.1, lib3.so.1.34 (this should be a single comma separated line.)

That's pretty much it. Library packages will not require a PACKAGE REQUIRED: line although making one would be a big bonus. It would be alot of work though.

I have found Midori to be a good alternative to Firefox, for those who want to run flash and javascript, with lower RAM usage than FF. Lots of deps to resolve, though

add all offices and CUPS drivers and print add ons, Inkscape + GIMP + XARA + IMAGEMAGICK
B. MEDIA CONSUMMATION / WEB SURF
add player back ends (mplayer, xine, VLC) add codecs, add browsers (OPERA, FF4, Seamonkey, Konqueror, Amaya, DILO, W3C...).
C. MEDIA AUTHORING
add each app as a full (dep-resolved) package, and a overall bundle with Aduio + video + animation added up ad dep-resolved
D. PEN-TEST/SECURITY/DATA ACQUISITION
You all know what goes here ;o)

1. each role should have a bundled single "AIO" module and modules one per app/suite with all dependency included (IMHO). As soon as those single modules get positive reviews and high ratings, they should go into the big AIO module...
2. Each module should be "get and go" on Vanilla, ie no deps unresolved; why?
SCENARIO:
I'm on the road, have my trusty Porteus, I find out i need Inkscape: I hook USB up to a PC, I boot and go online, go to the rep, i download >Inkscape< and cp it to /modules, i reboot - and I _need_ it to "just work".

I wouldn't worry for overlapping:
Anyone having modules which overlap content should be advised to join them and fix this that way (trough FAQ section)?

The iso file downloadable by users should probably have only essential stuff: one standard application per task. Other modules should be available for downloading from a simple to use repository. Dependency issue can be addressed by slackyd. As the title here says "Must have apps", we need to determine which application for internet browsing, image viewing etc. This will also help downloadable iso file to be of relatively small size with fewer bugs. Reliability of main iso file is of paramount importance for long-term success. This is what I feel.

I will add what i can from these requests tomorrow. Many already come with the standard Porteus and many are already on the server available through PPM in Porteus v1.1.

Sorry Turboprint is a paid app so won't be adding that one. Still working on libreoffice, but perhaps the builder is the better way too go anyway.
