I like fsck cheatcode- it checks all linux partitions at bootup. However, I do not think it checks save.dat file. How does one check save.dat file for errors?
save.dat is formatted with xfs. this fs has one nice feature (among others) - it does fsck automatically during mounting, no extra action is required.
in case of serious corruption you can use 'porteus save.dat manager' from Kmenu and try to repair .dat container.
