You can get the slackware package for thunderbird here:chosenbygrace wrote:Well how can I install them by the terminal then
http://pkgs.org/download/mozilla-thunderbird
What version of porteus do you have?
The 14.0 slackware package did work for me under porteus 2.1.
You might need further testing. I use gmail.

You download the package, then cd to the download dir and then use txz2dir command:
Code: Select all
root@porteus:~/Downloads# txz2xzm mozilla-thunderbird-15.0.1-i486-1.txz mozilla-thunderbird-15.0.1-i486-1.xzm
Code: Select all
root@porteus:~/Downloads# thunderbird

(English translation follows)francois wrote:Both thunderbird and wine could now be downloaded from usm package manager on porteus 3.0. I hope you will be happy to read that.
USM ne fonctionne pas pour moi (Porteus 3.0 Xfce et Razor-Qt).
USM package manager doesn't work for me (Porteus 3.0 Xfce et Razor-Qt on memory stick).

Even though we love people from all origins and speaking all langages, there is a policy enforced by the moderators-developers of using english as a lingua frenca on the porteus forum.
There are a few very good french contributors on this forum. It would be great to build a good french database to attract more french speaking contributors. There is a french section if you want to write in french:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewforum.php?f=59
In the following days or weeks usm will be going thru some revisions that should make it fail proof, see:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... &start=210
You can for now copy-paste a script called /usr/bin/usm-update, provided by brokenman the author of usm package manager, to restore usm. This way you will be able to download your favorite pakages including wine and thunderbird:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... &start=195
Don't forget to give the appropriate permission (execute) to this script so that it will work properly.

I do not know your level of familiarity with linux. In case you still have problems, start another thread on your difficulties with usm in the newbie or general chat section. We will be happy to support you.
Reading or skimming thru the faq would be an asset. These sections are available thru the board index link of this page upper left corner.
It would be appreciated that you are acquainted with forum rules (this is a short post):

Voltaire: Le mieux est l'ennemi du bien.Even though we love people from all origins and speaking all langages, there is a policy enforced by the moderators-developers of using english as a lingua frenca on the porteus forum.

It worked and I have now Thunderbird installed. You can for now copy-paste a script called /usr/bin/usm-update, provided by brokenman the author of usm package manager, to restore usm. This way you will be able to download your favorite pakages including wine and thunderbird:
But I had to launch usmgui from the CLI in order to make it work ...
No need for wine on a portable system, but I was surprised to find no e-mail client in Porteus.
Thanx again for the help.
