No need to praise, I know it's perfect

Post#1 by sunnysideofthesun » 01 Jul 2015, 03:18

Have you ever been wondering about what bored people do when they got nothing better to do than the things they do in times like those?

After having some experience with Porteus, I, as enlightened white ninja, have decided to bring to public my own version of this Linux distribution.
It's going to be developed with idea of enhanced usability, stability and eye-candiness in mind.
New Linux must have to offer something huge, something massive to interrelationship between user and computing machine.
Thinking on the name for new operation system, I first wanted to call it Bloateus.
But nowaday market demands not less nowaday name, fresh and easy to remember. Bloateus sounds too old and too Latin, therefore new system will be called unexpectedly short and geniusly: BIG OS!
The project of development got working codename "Operacja Zboczenie" after old Japanese motto "we're moving in the right direction".
Using modern and effective approach to operation system design, BIG OS won't be a fork (because it's so last century and every wannabe lego linux builder does it now and then), not even a spoon (project is too ambitious for that), but rather a ladle.
Some of currently available elements of pre-alpha version below.

Boot menu background.

Following boot menu entries are planned:
1. Boot (load everything we find)
2. Don't boot (user should have a choice not to boot)
3. True h4x0r (boot into run level 1)

New and advanced version of /etc/issue message (originally located in 001-core.xzm, currently available as 001-core_override.xzm test build package).
Screenshot of /etc/issue output from VM (slightly cropped to fit forum rules).

In further plans there's widening range of supported platforms and making BIG OS installable on CoolPhone. CoolPhone version is going to feature desktop theme "Red Leprechaun" with rainbows all over interface ending at buttons, command prompts, checkboxes, etc. Each using of end-of-the-rainbow control element will cost 1 cent.

BIG OS is in its early stage of development and needs many polishing. Presumable release date is expected to be set somewhere after winter, maybe even closer to end of March. April, 1st is the most likely day.
Year of release yet to be announced.

*portable community is planned to be available as separate optional package

Maybe more some kind of mania, with stomachal grandiose delirium. I would opt for chonic bulimia and cocaine usage, induced mania and delirium. 8)

Quite a big team. By their look and the look of their working environment, I understand that they are involved in some kind of strategic formation. Is it about ballet?

This is what could be called a peculiar sense of humor. Was sunnysideofthesun part of the team? Linux could be a good entertainment for someone inside. ;)
