How connect to WiFi in text mode

Hi all!
In text mode I can connect to wifi using the pns-tool application. works fine!
It creates a module that installs itself by next boot.

But by next boot, it is even installed but there is no wifi connected to the machine!
How do I start the connection?

When I reboot, search for /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/ and start ./S-pns, I get an activation message, then I try

ping 8.8.8.8. and the answer is Network is not available...

Any ideas?

Hi wread.

Have you tried with nmtui ?

Code: Select all

porteus ~$ lsxzm $PORTDIR/base/001-core-20210526.xzm | grep nmtui
/usr/bin/nmtui
/usr/bin/nmtui-connect
/usr/bin/nmtui-edit
/usr/bin/nmtui-hostname

How connect to WiFi in text mode

Hi M. Eerie!
thanks for paying attention to my complain!
I will try the way you propose and report back..

Meanwhile, I coud connect to wifi using the pns-tool of fanthom! Only that it is a little tricky and I will explain how to do it...

The problem is so, try to duplicate it to understand it.
1) Start porteus in text mode and in the console type "pns-tool" . Follow the directions and you will get connected to the IN after a few entries. Answer yes to get a module built for the job... In theory, after a reboot in text mode, you should connect again just by typing "/etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S-pns. I don' t know why, but it fails!

2)After some hacking, I made a pen drive with only 000-kernel, 001-base and 002-xorg (and 002-xext) in " porteus". The problem persists, as before, trying to start the installed S-pns after a reboot.

Hacking I found how: Start the porteus-test test pendrive in " always fresh" mode, you will land as guest in an x-term, then type "su root" and call /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S-pns. After a couple of second, you can ping 8.8.8.8 and IN is there!. You can even type back to text mode entering "init 3" and internet it still there. Voila!

Fine bussinnes fanthom! I am writing this post on porteus in X :Yahoo!:

My question: must it be sooo complicated?

EDIT: Excuse me, M. Eerie! With mntui it is all OK, Bravo! B)
Apparently pns-tool must be mantained to keep up with times!

Cheers!

Try wifi-setup-script.sh

Code: Select all

# wifi-setup-script.sh
Sorry, my English is bad.
