USM update repository failure

Post#1 by neri_s » 05 May 2020, 15:48

So, I'm new to Porteus and fairly new to Linux at all.
I had some experience with Ubuntu where I would download packages in order to install new programs.
Right now I successfully installed Porteus on my USB drive, but when I first tried to update USM repositories I got this log message
find: ‘/tmp/xdg-runtime-guest/gvfs’: Permission denied

Code: Select all

usm -u usm
shows I have updated USM to latest version but I was never able to run USM since if I try to search for a package it says
You are missing required database files!
Please run: usm -u all
Also, is the "permission denied" error at the very beginning of the update log an issue too?

I know probably it's just some trivial mistake I'm making but I'm really stuck.
Thanks for your help

I don't think your Distribution: 2.0 supports USM. ;)

That helps a lot. The 5.0rc1 test system doesn't have a working USM system.

USM update repository failure

Thanks a lot for your support Ed.
So since as far as I can tell this is the most up to date version, aside from downgrading to 4.0 am I stuck to download packages manually or is there another package manager I could use?
Thanks

USM update repository failure

5.0rc1 is a test version. At some point there will be an rc2 test version which hopefully will have a functional USM and then eventually a final version, if we live long enough with this pandemic. 4.0 is the current supported release.

Are there other package managers, probably, I'm just don't know what they are, or if they will take in account dependencies like USM. I'll let the more knowledgeable members respond to that.

USM update repository failure

Post#7 by neri_s » 07 May 2020, 19:24

I successfully downgraded to Porteus 4.0, went through downloading network firmware in order to get the WiFi back to work but still I'm incurring in the same problem. Right now I'm running Porteus 4.0 via USB stick but USM still won't update its repositories.
Any suggestions?

sesm

[INFO & SCRIPT] Slackware Mirror Settings for USM

Click Select All then copy to a new document, save it, run chmod +x sesm, then run sesm.

USM update repository failure

So, I followed your instructions and I actually had to manually tweak the mirrors, in particular change the slackware one (I picked an italian one as the preset did not seem to be working) and slacky from eu to uk based, but other than that now USM seems to be working.
Thanks a lot
