[Solved=bug] Stuck at power down (shut down) page

Hey guys!

I am using Porteus OS 5.0 on a bootable USB stick with changes saved (save controller configured).

When I try to shutdown the system using the built-in power off / shut down button (from Leave section), everything closes and a terminal opens with some quick logs. Then the last log appears as under:

Code: Select all

Unmounting local file systems
Unmounting union
Union unmounted successfully
Unmounting everything else
[ 6970.388125] Reboot: Power down
_
And then it stays that way for hours together. It never really shuts down. I've to turn off the physical power switch to turn off the PC. Nothing else works.

The same thing happens when I turn off the system from a RAM running Porteus.

Please help me fix this issue. I'm afraid constantly using the physical switch to power off might spoil my computer.

Solution:
This is a bug with Porteus 5 rc1. Will have to wait for the next release for this to be solved.

Sounds like a 5.0rc1 bug. Maybe fixed in 5.0rc2. Or it could just be a bug in your 5.0rc1 desktop so maybe a different 5.0rc1 desktop would work better. The one I test with is Cinnamon.

Is this a new behavior of your porteus installation? Or has that been going on from the first time you used it? Try your installation without the changes option, and report. Changes folder often becomes corrupted or sometime some added module creates that type of bug.

Hey francois.
It has been going on like this since the very first use.

What I did so far:
1. Installed a fresh 5.0 iso with KDE from the Porteus website to my USB. - Started the OS and shutdown. Stuck at shutdown.
2. Ran through RAM. - Same issue.
3. Changed the KDE to xfce, mate, and cinnamon. - Same issue.
4. Then I reverted to KDE and made the changes.dat file as per instructions. - Same issue.

5. Next I tried other distros as under:
MX - shuts down properly.
Manjaro - stuck at shutdown just like Porteus 5 (with similar last line saying reboot/shutdown).
Porteus 4 shuts down properly.
Puppy Linux - same issue. Same last line.

It seems like a bug. To be reported on Porteus v5.0rc1 problems

Have reported the bug. But I feel this must be something relating to UEFI or the way OS shuts down the PC.
As even in other major linux distros, I have faced similar issue with the same last terminal line where the shutdown gets stuck on my PC.

Porteus should shut down neatly on every pc and in UEFI mode too.

True. At least that's the expectation. May be they will fix whatever's the issue in the next rc release.
