Ha lol I tried easy2boot and it wiped out my windows startup. Ughh. Oh well. I’ll probably have to try something different

Thanks anyway!

 I've never had that happen. Well, at least not with Easy2Boot.

Why don't you just try the steps described in the USB_INSTRUCTIONS.txt file. No more outside programs.

Hi again, okay. I’ve started fresh (after reinstalling Windows. )

I followed the detailed steps (copied two folders to my 3.0 usb2 and ran Windows installer) rebooted into Porteus graphics mode no problem.

Now I’ll just need some help getting it to remain persistent.

Considering the usb stick is fat32 I guess I need a container file. Would I be better off getting up and running off an xfs system first?

No.

The FAT usb stick is readable by Windows which allows you to share files between the two systems if you chose. Download on Windows, copy to Porteus. Create a script on Porteus, copy to Windows for backup. etc.

Meh, it's okay I guess. I re-did the procedure and now have a functioning Porteus on a ext4 filesystem. I just need to make all changes persistent now. It would also be nice to skip the menu at boot. Are these two functions something you can guide me through? Have I told you already how big a help you've been? :D

with ext4, persistence should already be working, i believe.. ..check <usb>/boot/syslinux/porteus.cfg > in the section(starting line 39) "LABEL GRAPHICAL" > line APPEND changes=/porteus means changes are saved to <usb>/porteus/changes directory.
not sure about skipping boot menu entirely, but also in porteus.cfg , at the top there is the line TIMEOUT 90 (i think that's milliseconds, 9 secs), maybe try 0 ..you still get the boot menu but not for long..

Thanks for all the tips! I’ll keep you posted once I’ve tried it out.

Hey, one thing I’ve encountered on start up is a message saying “device not ready yet? Delaying 6 seconds”
Is there a way to make that go away?
