how to backup restore
I'm not aware of Porteus having a GUI backup/restore app, but USM can create an rdiff-backup module for you. I think backing up the changes folder is adequate for system changes but if you loose the partition you will have to reinstall Porteus before doing the restore. You should also backup the modules and optional folders if you have added files to them.

how to backup restore
If there is no backup gui, than most ideally and secure to backup is manually create a copy porteus folder(base, module, optional, changes, etc), rename it by date and send it to another drive/hdd/usb and if the size is big just compress before copy to another folder?Ed_P wrote: ↑12 Aug 2019, 15:33I'm not aware of Porteus having a GUI backup/restore app, but USM can create an rdiff-backup module for you. Use USM to search for "backup" and choose which ever GUI one(s) you want to try.

how to backup restore
Personally, I do not backup individual files or folders related to the operating system.
Set it up, configure as you like it and then:
make an image of this partition or the whole disk.
Restoring those images has never failed.

i already check it, seems from the picture, GUI is good, but PartedMagic is paid, while qt-fsarchiver installer is deb or rpm and the live cd is 1.2 GB(much bigger than clonezilla only 276 MB)Ed_P wrote: ↑16 Aug 2019, 22:39lksnip, this posting on backup tests may interest you. https://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/inde ... opic=96204

how to backup restore [SOLVED]
I think you're putting to much emphasis on the live USB OS used in the tests. Try reading it this way:
And
If backup space is important fsarchiver bz2 compression wins, if backup time is important anything other than that wins.Porteus live USB key and backed up a siduction installation on a 25.9GB partition which had 12.1GB of data.
G4L, default options Lzop compression - took under 2 minutes but image was 16.3GB
fsarchiver, default options gzip standard compression - under 2 minutes, image 5.7GB
fsarchiver, bz2 compression - 20minutes, image 5.3GB
Redo Backup, default (not configurable) - 6 minutes, 6.1GB
Clonezilla, default, gzip - about 3.5 minutes including image verification, 6.1GB
And
Code: Select all
root@porteus:/home/guest# usm -g fsarchiver
14.2+
