Problem at reboot with kernel 4.19.2

Post#16 by kalo86 » 17 Nov 2018, 14:59

Hi Hamza,
I did not try the patched GCC compiler.
Do you have a patched GCC module please?
Otherwise can you post a link where I can get some information about the retpoline patch?
I think that the issue is caused by the GCC compiler.

Should be available on upstream repositories. Will ask brokenman for this.

Problem at reboot with kernel 4.19.2

I need to figure out why the manual compilation of the kernel is giving problems at the boot and no problems if I use the compiled modules
Have you tried just applying the patch from Neko's module and seeing if it boots?

BTW please upload logs to pastebin for easier viewing.

Problem at reboot with kernel 4.19.2

Post#19 by kalo86 » 17 Nov 2018, 22:47

Hi brokenman,

I just downloaded the updated core modules located at the following link:
http://dl.porteus.org/x86_64/Porteus-v4 ... /20171203/

At the reboot the system boots fine, finally! BUT the Network Manager icon (close to the clock) is not shown.
This is another problem, not related to the kernel compilation.

New Update: System boots fine and to solve the Network Manager issue I added the missing libs in /usr/lib64.
I hope that the next release of Porteus will fix this problem.

Best regards,

Problem at reboot with kernel 4.19.2

Hello Porteus Team!
I want to write this post because it could be useful for new users.
The boot problem has been solved: the issue was that I changed the HOSTNAME in the kernel .config file.
With the older core and xorg modules I am still able to boot with the modified hostname, but with the most recent core and xorg modules I have to compile the kernel leaving the porteus hostname.
Maybe someone will explain how to let Linux to boot the operative system even changing the hostname.
Anyway, the cause has been found! Finally!

Best regards,

Hi brokenman,

You're welcome! Even if this is a little bit off-topic, is there a way to try the DEV version of Porteus?
Thanks always,
