cannot create a bootable porteus USB stick

What the title says.
Tried installing Porteus LXDE from this mirror http://ftp.vim.org/ftp/os/Linux/distr/p ... teus-v4.0/
- with dd
- with rufus
- with some GUI image creator qiso something

Woudln't even boot.
Then I tried installing LXDE and Openbox flavours from http://ftp.vim.org/ftp/os/Linux/distr/p ... 4/current/ with dd. My attempts failed, naturally.

Welcome to Porteus.

I have a question. Are you running a BIOS system or UEFI?

In any case, you need to simply unpack the Porteus ISO and copy the files onto the USB stick. What you do next depends on if you are using a BIOS or UEFI system. If BIOS system you need to enter into the boot folder and run the install script to make the USB device bootable.

If you are running a UEFI system you don't need to do anything. Just boot.
