Welcome to porteus. :)

Please present your problem with more information. What is RTL8723bs? What have you tried yet? And what did not work? Outputs from what your experiments would be much appreciated.

1. Sorry. Realtek wi-fi. It`s famous enough. There are some questions from users on the net and not too much answers from different linux devs about it. Can it work on Porteus? problem: there is no wi-fi.
2. ssd ok.
3. I newby on linux. I don`t read docs about installing, but I just want to copy Porteus from flash on HD, and use it like usual operating system (saving data, passwords, drivers etc...). I make it, but there no saving, I have "clear" Porteus on every new session. (As I can understand Porteus installer from menu just copy files too (and bootloader)). When I load from hd there is no "I can`t save, press enter" writing on loading, but there is no save too.

You need 4.12.x kernel for this wifi to work:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n ... aging-Tree

@neko has something to offer in this matter i believe:
Porteus Kernel Builder
Please add [Solved] to your thread title if the solution was found.

I`m not specialist about kerlens. As I can understand kernel is something that sometimes written by Linus Torvalds and later integrated into all new linuxes.
Sooo......... Can I change kernel for my Porteus??? Or.... ???

@alexhawk2016
You can update kernel of your Porteus 3.2 ISO.

1. preparation
download tool & example

Tool:Porteus Kernel Builder
mkKernel-17.09.04-noarch-1.xzm (3.6 M)
http://www.mediafire.com/file/598zlfbo1 ... arch-1.xzm
md5sum: e209c6afebbc67d2bc5863aee4047d4b mkKernel-17.09.04-noarch-1.xzm

Build example: v4.12.10.tar.xz
http://www.mediafire.com/file/n5ite2pmp ... .10.tar.xz

2. set directory & execute tool
execute on Porteus 3.2 environment.

Code: Select all

% cd work
% ls -1
mkKernel-17.09.04-noarch-1.xzm
v4.12.10.tar.xz
% su
# activate mkKernel-17.09.04-noarch-1.xzm
# xz -dc v4.12.10.tar.xz | tar -x
# /usr/local/sbin/guimkKernel
GUI 1. set working direcory: "work" as above
GUI 2. select kernel version: 4.12.10
GUI 3. select ISO whose kernel will be update.
GUI 4. push OK

Thanks.

Note: Today, Now, kernel version line 4.12 is being updated from 4.12.10 to 4.12.11.

As usual nothing...
1. Is this directory that contains unpacked v4.12.10.tar.xz ?
2. There is no field with version, only empty fields.....

If I undetstand right this tool corrects 000-kernel file...???
So can you put here this one or maybe iso?

md5sum: beadbb2d5cf10fb34105a77f22c62339 Pv3.2.2-Kv4.12.11-x86_64.tar

Code: Select all

% tar -tf Pv3.2.2-Kv4.12.11-x86_64.tar
Pv3.2.2-Kv4.12.11-x86_64/
Pv3.2.2-Kv4.12.11-x86_64/vmlinuz
Pv3.2.2-Kv4.12.11-x86_64/000-kernel.xzm

------------------
1. Is this directory that contains unpacked v4.12.10.tar.xz ?
work directory contents

Code: Select all

% cd work
% ls v*/*
v4.12.10/aufs.patch v4.12.10/own.patch.drivers+acpi+sleep.c v4.12.10/own.patch.drivers+mfd+intel-lpss-pci.c

v4.12.10/32:
32bit.config lib/ vmlinuz

v4.12.10/64:
64bit.config lib/ vmlinuz
2. There is no field with version, only empty fields.....
Tool "Porteus Kernel Builder" needs a Network connection.

Great thanks. uname -a returns 4.12.11 now. But there is something like "device not ready" at wifi area anyway. Maybe I need to do something more?

@alexhawk2016

Here is the Realtek Wi-Fi firmware that was gotten from Arch package linux-firmware-20170622.7d2c913-noarch-1.
000-kernel.xzm will be overwritten with this contents.
I don't have the hardware, so please confirm by yourself.

rtlwifi_firmware.xzm (300 K)

md5sum: 14dfa8e890f71025981b836a1fa9ada8 rtlwifi_firmware.xzm

:magic: :magic: :magic:
I`m nearly almighty now...
<ODE_TO_LINUX>
Linux comfortable. May be more comfortable and have more idealogical power than old good time dos have.
Blender run SMOOTH. There are no unwanted win drags, that fantastically (not just kidding) increased up my creativity. I call it "Silent Blender". Lin Blender draws textures (normal maps too) at older shaders v 1.0 videocards.

I have wifi and others stuff. THANKS.
Only intel sst audio doesn`t work. But it`s not important to me, because I want to buy external one. Forums people says that they can use Fruty Loops and Guitar Rig with asio drivers under wine.
Anyway, working intel audio sst would be better than nonworking. And last question: system cannot see my external flashcard (non usb, just integrated cardreader)

Thank you very much for 4.12.11, but I have problem. I can use it only one time, without "savegame". On the second start I have Infinite black screen at linux loading, only F2/fresh mode reload works after.

1. Mate
2. I`m using "boot from efi file" bios option.
porteus.cfg: Only one string changed: change=/mnt/$#@%$#%#$%#/porteussave.dat
3. I just talking about porteussave.dat :)
4. Notebook http://digma.ru/catalog/item/2292/

First run:all ok. Then I create porteussave.dat, change porteus.cfg and restart -> and usualy (maybe not always) I get infinite black screen on loading.
