[Solved] Package mounting

Posted: 26 Jul 2011, 11:15
by Fistandantilus
Hi,

I have two packages x11vnc and teamviewer. I have moved both of them into the modules folder. But during start up they do not get mounted. All others are.
Mounting them manually is working perfect.
What could be the reason?

Thanks,
F.

Hi,

One question,
What is the extension of these packages ?

For TeamViewer,

1) Download this
2) Activate it
3) Run it via terminal with teamviewer6 command.

@Fistandantilus
the only reason of not lading these modules would be 'noload=' cheatcode. are you using it? do you have multiple version of porteus installed?
pls show us dumped output of 'psinfo' command and also /var/log/porteus-livedbg.

btw: i'll integrate all useful info from porteus-livedbg (like booting partition) in next version of 'psinfo'

cheers

Hi all,

- all packages have xzm extension
- "noload" cheatcode is not used
- only one Porteus version installed

- activating the modules once Porteus is running is no problem

Here is psinfo from my virtual machine which behaves exactly like the real server:

Code: Select all

Teamviewer is not included as x11vnc is working much better for me.

Hello,

Do you using a BootCD (as .iso in VBox) ??

I asking you about this info for some reasons,

1) I see in one report that you are running the Porteus Default ISO (/mnt/sr0)
2) You are many partitions on the VBox's Disk (/mnt/sda2)
3) You have two installations of Porteus, one on ISO, another on Vbox's Disk. (/mnt/sda2)

If you want to load some modules from another source than the boot device. You will need to use extramod cheatcode

To understand this cheatcode and know how it works.
You can read the great documentation of Ahau at Here

I hope this can help you!

Regards,
Hamza

@Hamza
good point (CD always takes priority over usb/hd when cheatcode from_dev= is not used) but this is not the case:
as per porteus-livedbg:

Code: Select all

# Recognized devices:
/dev/sda1: LABEL="swap" UUID="e1abae57-7099-4552-a358-c8deb1f3bd6b" TYPE="swap"
/dev/sda2: LABEL="data" UUID="62cc877c-8811-474e-8fbb-340dea18b2c5" TYPE="ext4"
these was the only media present during boot.

@Fistandantilus
in the first post you have said that x11vnc and teamviewer are not loading during boot but i see that x11vnc gets loaded correctly:

Code: Select all

    # Loaded modules:
    base/000-kernel.xzm
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    modules/vbox-guest-408-porteus-v1.0-i486-1ftm.xzm
    modules/x11vnc-0.9.12-i486-1_SBo.xzm
how do you recon that it's not loaded?
pls open terminal type 'x11vnc', press enter and check if you can execute it.
cheers

Hi,

I´m booting from sda2. I have installed it like an USB installation. The packages are in the packages folder.
Both of the packages have one thing in common. Once they get mounted manually I have a loop device in the mnt folder.

Besides that I found something else. If I use the toroot cheatcode I can execute x11vnc in the console. If I boot just with guest I have to mount the package again and only then I´m able to run it - weird

I think I will forget about all the security and always use root to boot the server. I mean there is nobody else than me and my wife who are using it. Slax was running for years that way - so what.

works for me even from guest (i have used x11vnc from 64bit repo but it should not matter). did you try 'Always fresh' mode?

Next time I reboot I´ll try it again.I mean once it is started everything is working fine now. So it is not a big issue. Besides that I first have to request the next down time
