Distributions like ubuntu, fedora and opensuse work with secure boot enabled. So, if piggybacking on the installed bootloader of these distributions (Eg: editing grub.cfg), other distributions should also run with secure boot on. But try it out on another rainy day, since you have everything setup fine on your laptop with secure boot off, so why experiment?
For your tablet:
Try Ed_P's suggestion with the 64bit version of porteus on a USB stick. Since you do not have ubuntu on this, you need to turn secure boot off. If this does not work, you may have a tablet that has 32bit efi on a 64 bit system. Search for bootia32.efi and copy it to EFI/BOOT folder on your usb and try to boot from the USB again.

that's exactly the kind of tablet I have, actually :/ I tried this bootia32.efi thing as in http://blog.puppylinux.com/?viewDetailed=00009 with puppy linux slacko 6.3.2, but it didn't work. I'll try it with Porteus too, then! the problem is that I'm trying from a flashcard, and the bootloader does not recognize the slacko .sfs file for some reason. it didn't even find the grub.cfg out of the box, it asks me to specify where it is or for permission to try and find it. I hope I manage to boot porteus! I'd rather boot Slacko because it seems to have touch support, though -- but I can manage without, booting Porteus alone would already be amazing!jssouza wrote: If this does not work, you may have a tablet that has 32bit efi on a 64 bit system. thank you for the pointer on the cub linux blog, jssouza!

Hmm, then maybe try the 32 bit porteus with the 32bit efi also. Maybe the tablet has problems with 64 bit OSes. You mentioned that the Windows 10 on it is also 32bit. Procedure would be to flash the 64 bit version as is on the USB, add the bootia32.efi and then replace the 64 bit porteus folder and the kernel with the 32bit variants.bcuconato wrote:that's exactly the kind of tablet I have, actually :/ I tried this bootia32.efi thing as in http://blog.puppylinux.com/?viewDetailed=00009 with puppy linux slacko 6.3.2, but it didn't work.jssouza wrote: If this does not work, you may have a tablet that has 32bit efi on a 64 bit system.
