Porteus

Hello, everyone!
I bought 2 pcs of SanDisk Ultra Dual OTG 3.0 16GB in order to make Porteus v3.1 bootable USB for my teacher.

Using GParted, 1st partition FAT32 formatted with boot flag and put boot folder of porteus ISO and 2nd partition ext2 formatted and put porteus folder.
Then I executed the Porteus-installer-for-Linux.com script: as root successfully.
I think the extlinux bootloader should have been installed on the device formatted with FAT32 with this script.

When I boot using PLOP to select USB as target, it shows as follows:

LOADING EHCI DRIVER
SEARCHING ON HOSTS
HOST1
Port 2: DEVICE CONNECTED

Nothing happened after all.

pqi (except pqi U276) and siliconpower pen drives work well based on above mentioned procedure.

Could you tell me whether this is a problem of the pen drive and/or USB 3.0 issue or my way of installation?
This is my first attempt to use USB3.0, so I wander if it is due to U3.0 or SanDisk.

The only thing I need to do to boot the USB drive is to disable the pc's EFI Secure Boot option and reboot with the USB drive plugged in.

Since I have a basic AMI BIOS computer, I am afraid I don't have UEFI Secure Boot option.
I read your posts in SanDisk forum too.

That's ok, just change the boot sequence order in the BIOS so the USB drive is before the harddrive. The format can stay the same.

As I above mentioned, I use PLOP Boot Manager for USB boot.
My psi pen drive works fine with this, but SanDisk USB drive doesn't.

The order is as follows:
CD-ROM
Removable drive
Hard Disk

I'm unclear as to where you have PLOP and what you have on the USB drive. Is PLOP on the USB drive? And if so how is Porteus on the USB drive? An ISO?

Ok, I think I understand now. And I think your scenario may be more complicated than it needs to be. I would remove PLOP and simply install Porteus directly to the drive and then boot the machine. That should impress your teacher.

If you want the drive to be multibootable keep PLOP and have it boot the Porteus ISO not an install. I've never used PLOP so I can't help you with parameters it will need. I use grub4dos and grub2win to multiboot flash drives and ISOs.

I use PLOP Boot Manager for my 11years old PC which doesn't have USB boot option in BIOS.
It works very well for me with Porteus USB drive. I like this distribution very much.
I inform you I have made two bootable sticks of PQI 4GB & 8GB this morning, and will bring them to my teacher.

My question is actually why this SanDisk stick doesn't boot like my other brands sticks.

I tried following ways without any success:
1) Add LBA with boot flag
2) Formatted 1st partition FAT16 instead of FAT32
2a) flag boot
2b) flag boot, LBA
3) Formatted full size ext2

If there is a solution that makes this SanDisk bootable, that will be really helpful.

I'm still working on this issue.
Visiting my parents home where my father has Win7 Toshiba laptop, I execute diskpart.exe to change MBR format of the disks.
It takes time so during the formatting I took a hot bath watching baseball game on TV.

hi, obosan please try neko script to format the usb key,and install the neko's iso inside,maybe sandisk have done this key for android device,but...if you do this not from an arch installation,slackware system have a better compatibility for this task.the target of this is the automation of format with a dual file system.

I activated live-usb-3.1-noarch-7.xzm (352 K) of neko's Simple USB Flash Installer and made one bootable disk with it.

However, it also freezes at the same point:
