Libre Office requests so many dependencies (23)?

Post#1 by daniel » 19 Aug 2016, 16:39

Hi guys,

My system is Porteus 3.1 64bit KDE4

I don't know if it is a real problem, maybe just curiosity: I have downloaded Libreoffice-5.1.5-x86_64-1alien.xzm, and USM added 23 dependencies:

The Libre Office is working fine (except I could not install pt-BR locale, but I think it is just newbie issue :D ), selecting all modules and activating them... is this ok?

Or should I proceed in an other way?

Welcome to Porteus.

^ Another way would be to select the option in usm to make just the one giant module. After it is done it will be activated. Once you are happy it is working, copy it to your modules folder in /porteus/modules, from where it will be automatically loaded every time you boot up, if that is what you wish. :)

Hello daniel. It is normal with some more elaborate packages to get many dependencies. In other distributions, the reality is the same, it is just that these are hidden.

The command to activate a bunch of modules in a folder:
viewtopic.php?f=94&t=4398

Code: Select all

activate /path/*
activate /porteus/optional/libreofficefolder/*
You can use bogomips suggestion, or if you use libreoffice all the time, put libreoffice module and all its dependencies in a folder called libreoffice in the /porteus/modules folder. However, if you prefer activating libreoffice only when you choose to use it, the the libreoffice bundle is the way to go, it could reside in the /porteus/optional folder.

You can also download the latest version Porteus-v3.2rc4 and open a root console and type: update-libreoffice which should produce a working libreoffice.

I have 006-libreoffice.xzm from porteus repository and the only dependence it asked for is boost. I am running KDE

Cheers!
