Hi I am sorry to hear that. If you ever decide to relook at it, can I make these suggestions.
Plus others may reply as well.

1) Use root powers to delete those lines from your rc.local and delete the radeon.conf file, do a full reboot and then run the commands as root

Code: Select all

fuser -k /dev/snd/*
modprobe snd_hda_intel index=1
alsactl init 0
2) As local user run alsamixer as you appear to claim the correct device is now showing

Then show us a screenshot of your alsamixer mixer levels. There is a forum limit on the size I think its 600 x 600 but you can always show a link to your screenshot.
I use tinypic.com and you can always use other free image hosting sites.

First step should be to get a system information dump and upload it to pastebin then post a link here. You can do that through porteus-settings-centre. This will help us to get a good overview of the situation.

Also the output of:
aplay -L

Don't worry everyone haha, haven't given up on Porteus, just this rig. My story is this; installed Porteus on an old Dell Dimension 8200, later on noticed the support for Radeon Catalyst drivers, decided to give it a go on an old bitcoin rig. Thanks for the support.

In the past few days I tried a few distros. Don't feel too bad, had problems with the drivers in Arch, too, which were worse.

We do not feel bad. And we are going to give you the fix that you need or explain why it's not possible.

See panel menu > system > porteus tools for system dump.

Please persist.
