I encounter that on occasion also. I suspect RAM corruption somewhere. Rebooting works.wacojohn wrote:Then tried a restart off of the main menu. Got a totally white screen and had to hit the button.

@wacojohn
^ d was alright. it's an alias for directory listing. One more thing, to make life easier and to reduce burden of concentration you can just click on Select All in head of code block, highlighted copy with ^C (Ctl+c) and paste into terminal at the prompt with ^V (Ctl+v).
Boinc is working just fine, but it's your changes that I'm worried about. There could be something there that is interfering with the startup process.

^ d .... as in ctrl d? Unless I am mistaken, the error was just 'd' ..... instead of just 'cd'. Dunno ... just don't want a miscommunication between us. I am tryin'g to do all this right by you.Bogomips wrote:@wacojohn

Was going to bring this up earlier, but did not want to take up any more of your time than necessary. Now, it has become an issue. Select all/copy will copy a 'stack' of commands. Paste into terminal will put all those commands on one line or more lines AS COPIED .... right???? Cool, .. until one of the commands executes a 'program' .. whereby, the terminal window halts the stack at that point ... and the execution of commands halts until the 'program' is terminated ... (hope I am making sense). Therefore, I am beset with a failure to complete your request to complete the stack and report. Soooo, have been copy/pasting one line at a time ... and when I get a 'halted' terminal window, I open another and continue the steps/lines as requested. I hope again I am making sense. Stacking commands is a great 'Linux feature', but when the Terminal window halts .. it blows away a noob like me. Clear this up for me ... please.
Now ... will continue with your instructions .. to the best of my ability. Will be right back.

Check that FireFox is working, and that all extensions are there.wacojohn wrote: Don't know what you mean by:6. Check out FF
boincmgr was the only one that held up the terminal. But now that he functions, we can try him as a background job.
- Did you have to provide a password when you used sudo to copy porteus.cfg?
- When all is well with FF, quit FF
- Then Password needed here?
Code: Select all
sudo umount .mozilla du -sh .mozilla

Re: boinc???
All previously missing items are missing ... no FF extensions. Boinc is not running but is on Main menu/System. I cannot remember if sudo required a p/w ... I THINK it did.Bogomips wrote:Check that FireFox is working, and that all extensions are there.wacojohn wrote: Don't know what you mean by:6. Check out FF

Re: boinc???
^ Something not quite right here. Output is inconsistent. Do not have FF. Only use PaleMoon and SeaMonkey, but do something of the sort daily with SeaMonkey.
Require
Require
- Get tree with USM, and stick it in modules folder.
- Paste into text editor (mousepad) statements of code blocks in 6 and directions given in 6.
- Save this in a file in /mnt/sda1/disk
- Reboot
- Do not start firefox. If FF running quit it.
- Using mousepad retrieve instructions saved in /mnt/sda1/disk
- Do
Code: Select all
pkill firefox; ps -e | grep firefox
- If firefox shows up There should not be any firefox left. If there is, try repeating last statement.
Code: Select all
pkill -9 firefox; ps -e | grep firefox
Code: Select all
cat /proc/cmdline cat /var/log/porteus-livedbg cd /home/guest du -sh .mozilla [[ -d .mozilla ]] && rm -r .mozilla ls .mozilla cp -a /mnt/sda1/disk/.mozilla /home/guest du -sh .mozilla tree -L 2 .mozilla tree -d .mozilla
- Fire up FF and check for extensions etc.

Re: boinc???
Have not done anything but FIND tree in USM. I see it, but not sure what to do with it. Will it offer to auto activate? Do I say yes? Do I put it in /porteus/modules? :
Looking ahead, not sure I understand this:
EDIT:
I THINK I understand after reading closer. Step 6 of this reply. Code blocks .. the text of each instruction window titled CODE in step 6 along with their output. If correct, just need answer to tree and autoactivate.
I can also access this forum with another (tablet) computer in order to access instructions. Let me know what you prefer.

Re: boinc???
tree-1.0.6.... Select/highlight it, click on Download, click on Convert to Module if not already checked, click on Download. When the download completes copy the .xzm module to your /porteus/modules folder, there dbl click on it and Activate it.wacojohn wrote:Have not done anything but FIND tree in USM.
