HD Boot Error

Post#1 by BootMania » 11 Mar 2015, 17:06

Hello,

After recently downloading, installing and successfully running Porteus from a USB 2.0, I ran into a problem booting from my hard drive. I get the error "Boot Error" (with USB drive removed). I have changed the boot sequence to the hard drive first and even disabled all other boot devices but still get the same error. Right now I am only able to boot from a rescue cd. I suspect the Porteus install changed a bios setting but I sure don't know what it was. Any help would be appreciated.

My system: Lenovo IdeaCentre desktop K300 64 bit, W7 Sp1 Home Edition. Lenovo Bios: 58KT36AUS.

Let me know if you need more information. Thanks.

"Boot Error" Issue resolved.

I swapped out my hard drive with a known good one and it booted with no problem so it was not a bios issue. I put the original hard drive back in and booted from a W7 repair disk. Based on information I gathered from Microsoft, I selected the Command Prompt option shown via the repair disk menu and then typed in "Bootrec.exe" which will display the options available for the command. I ran bootrec.exe with both the fixmbr and the fixboot options. One of them must have worked since I'm back to booting directly from my hard drive and am one happy camper. Thanks to anyone who gave consideration to the problem.
