RazorQT V3.1: No sound

Post#1 by David-C » 09 Mar 2015, 15:39

Hello.

I have an Acer Aspire 5738Z running on Porteus 3.1 RazorQT x86-64 iso. I am not getting any sound at all. I have tried to select it from the Porteus configuration centre, but it tells me that one or more sound cards are detected, and that if I still experience no sound to report it on here.

During every boot up the volume icon on the Razor panel is red with an "X", which I presume indicates no sound. I have of course tried to raise the volume, to no avail. Running Alsamixer results in an error message.

I have already tried everything suggested here with no results:

http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=2926

I have also tried to copy the Alsa settings from my Puppy Lighthouse (Slackware based) to my Porteus files without any change. Though it may be worth noting that these files did not exist on Porteus at first. These copied settings are now located in:

/etc/modprobe.d

and

/usr/share/alsa

There are 2 seperate "Alsa.conf" files in each directory. The "alsa.conf" from "/etc/modprobe.d" reads:

Code: Select all

options snd-pcsp index=-4
options sb io=0x220 irq=7 dma=1 dma16=5 mpu_io=0x330
options bt87x index=-2
options cx88_alsa index=-2
options saa7134-alsa index=-2
options snd-atiixp-modem index=-2
options snd-intel8x0m index=-2
options snd-via82xx-modem index=-2
options snd-usb-audio index=-2
options snd-usb-caiaq index=-2
options snd-usb-ua101 index=-2
options snd-usb-us122l index=-2
options snd-usb-usx2y index=-2
options snd-cmipci mpu_port=0x330 fm_port=0x388
options snd-usb-audio index=-2

and the "alsa.conf" from "/usr/share/alsa" reads:

Code: Select all

Sound has always worked out of the box with most other Linux distros I've used on this hardware.

I've just tried the XFCE version of 3.1 with the same issues.

Upon first boot the sound appears to be working fine, the problem arises after saving my session and rebooting. After that, the problem persists. In the XFCE version, the volume control fails to appear in the panel after the sound stops working. I didn't change any settings at all. Here is the error message when trying to launch the volume control from the terminal:

Code: Select all

volumeicon: alsa_backend.c:86: asound_get_volume: Assertion `m_elem != ((void *)0)' failed.
Aborted
Here is the PSinfo for the XFCE version:

http://pastebin.com/Sa1t1Jp3

There is one notable difference between the RazorQT version and the XFCE - The RazorQT fails to launch videos, whereas the XFCE version launches them but without sound.

alsa configs must be constructed incorrectly. please remove all your modules and tweaks then add files one by one till you find the one which causes troubles.
