Installing on mac

Post#1 by alexio2019 » 25 Dec 2014, 01:12

Hello,

I've installed porteus on my computer at work (thinkpad) and I LOVE IT! So now I'm trying to install it on my mac, but I'm having lots of trouble. I want to keep my mac partition and I've installed refind to handle the booting. Worked fine for slackware, but I really want to see porteus running off the hard drive. sda1 is boot partition, sda2 is mac, sda3 is mac recovery, sda4 is porteus (hopefully). I tried running Porteus-installer-for-linux.com, but it dies with 'error 2.' Searched the web and could not find anything on error 2. Here's my debug.txt from the install:

Code: Select all

device: /dev/sda
partition: /dev/sda4
partition number: 4
partition mount point: /mnt/sda4
installation path: /mnt/sda4/boot
subfolder:
filesystem: ext2
bootloader: lilo
error code: 2
system: porteus 3.17.4-porteus x86_64
mount details: /dev/sda4 /mnt/sda4 ext2 rw,noatime,nodiratime 0 0
full partition scheme:

Disk /dev/sda: 320.1 GB, 320072933376 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders, total 625142448 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x7a45034d

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 1 625142447 312571223+ ee GPT

Thanks a lot! PLEASE HELP!

I don't have access to my computer at the moment but if you search the forum for UEFI stuff you may find ome stuff I've written about using UEFI and rEFInd. You may find the correct structure for the rEFInd entry in one of these posts. Please don't run the Porteus-installer-for-Linux.com as this will install a different boot loader. rEFInd is yours and you should stick with it.

Check that the refind.conf file has the option to search for all linux kernels present (This config file is very well commented).
