started from puppy linux, noob always in search of faster performance, i thought to try this Porteus out. having been away from linux and pc's for a couple of years, using only android devices, i have resumed my endeavors with alphaOS, macpup, and lighthouse64 (strictly a collectors item for keepsake). Similar to alphaOS, Porteus seems to be the natural evolution of the puppy linux features i find appealing, only more widely developed and supported than alpha. so:
- as you claim, it booted incredibly fast, good for bragging rights
- polished, well organized tools for administration, including niche features like savefile creation and maintenance
- nice iso customization tool on your website
but - d*mn it runs slow as bricks!!! my lightweight xcfe desktop trudges along the same speed as windows. feels like it's running off a live cd
got me intrigued about slackware, however, something i know nothing about. what is slax? what is silax? slacko-pup? porteus-wheezy. i seek a system that runs as fast as possible, with only module or sfs app installation and management, and with no apps that i dont want preinstalled in the iso
