The config file problem continues plus the alien flashplayer file is missing it's LIBS.TXT file.

USM getting to be unreliable. :(

If I stop and exit USM after the config file hang up and restart it and select Update All it updates the next database and hangs again. So I repeat the process until all databases are updated.

Is the config file hangup due to an error in one of the /etc/usm .conf files and can someone tell me how to fix it? :unknown:

But the alien 616 flashplayer module is downloadable now. :)

Tried updating USM in terminal mode, same lock up on the config file. Couldn't get out of it so closed terminal and reopened it.

Retried and got this:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ su
Password:
root@porteus:/home/guest# set -x
root@porteus:/home/guest# usm -U all
+ usm -U all

 Usm is already active.

If this information is not correct, you can remove the following file and rerun the script:
/var/lock/usm

root@porteus:/home/guest# ls /var/lock/
+ /bin/ls -F -b -T 0 --color=auto /var/lock/
lmt-invoc.lock lmt-req.lock sane/ subsys/
root@porteus:/home/guest#

Should I resort to this to fix the problems?

Updating config file

While USM still attempting to update the config file:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ ls /tmp/
qtsingleapp-qlippe-2dfb-3e8= spacefm.tmp/ usm.OPcN0g/
qtsingleapp-qlippe-2dfb-3e8-lockfile usm/
guest@porteus:~$ ls /tmp/usm*
/tmp/usm:
/bin/ls: cannot open directory /tmp/usm.OPcN0g: Permission denied
guest@porteus:~$ su
Password:
root@porteus:/home/guest# ls /tmp/usm*
/tmp/usm:

/tmp/usm.OPcN0g:
about.tmp help-pkgtools.tmp sbo-categories.tmp searchType welcome
filelist isonline sbocategs term1.tmp welcome.bak
root@porteus:/home/guest#
Any clue? :Search:

It's hard to know what is going on here. Perhaps a permissions problem. I would remove the USM files and install fresh. Try in fresh mode to see if it works.

Thanks for the direction brokenman.

I tried USM GUI Updates in AF mode and they all worked. I also checked for white files in my save.dat file and found these:

Code: Select all

/mnt/loop

You can unmount it by typing uloop

Here is a list of the files:
etc home opt	root usr var

find /mnt/loop -name .wh.*
/mnt/loop/usr/lib64/.wh.libapm.so.1
/mnt/loop/usr/share/icons/Faenza/apps/48/.wh.spacefm.png
/mnt/loop/var/usm/slackonly/.wh.PACKAGES.TXT
/mnt/loop/var/usm/slackonly/.wh.OPTIFEST
/mnt/loop/var/usm/slackonly/.wh.LIBS.TXT
which I removed.

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ su
Password:
root@porteus:/home/guest# rm /mnt/loop/var/usm/slackonly/.wh.*
root@porteus:/home/guest#
Rebooted to my normal mode and the USM update config file hang continued so I ran your script from http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... 697#p24697 and it ran to completion successfully. I will try a USM GUI Update tomorrow to confirm things work again.

Thanks again.

Problem solved. :Yahoo!:

Code: Select all

sh-4.2# usm -u all
 Starting alien database update
Downloading: vercheck.txt DONE
Downloading: CHECKSUMS.md5.gz DONE
Downloading: MANIFEST.bz2 DONE
Downloading: PACKAGES.TXT.gz DONE
Downloading: LIBS.TXT.gz DONE
File verification was good.
Optimizing manifest
 alien database updated.

Updating config file

 Starting salix database update
Downloading: CHECKSUMS.md5 DONE
Downloading: PACKAGES.TXT DONE
Downloading: LIBS.TXT.gz DONE
Downloading: OPTIFEST.gz DONE
 salix database updated.

 Starting slacky database update
Downloading: CHECKSUMS.md5.gz DONE
Downloading: MANIFEST.bz2 DONE
Downloading: PACKAGES.TXT.gz DONE
Downloading: LIBS.TXT.gz DONE
File verification was good.
Optimizing manifest
 slacky database updated.

 Starting ponce database update
Downloading: CHECKSUMS.md5.gz DONE
Downloading: MANIFEST.bz2 DONE
 :

And while I am happy to finally get this resolved it's frustrating trying to figure out what I did that caused the problem. Solving problems is great but knowing how to prevent them from happening again is even better. :good:

Interesting to see that the config file update only happens after the first database update and not all of them.

Thanks brokenman. :friends:
